Bajaj’s potent tourer gets a scrambler makeover from a Filipino custom house

Bajaj’s flagship motorcycle, the Dominar 400 is a very capable tourer with a sporty power-cruiser-like design. But, like most motorcycles, there’s a huge scope of customising this one too. And MC Customs ph from Philippines has done a stunning job of converting this venerable mile muncher into a trail tamer.

The custom house has swapped the standard Dominar’s road-biased rubber with a set of more rugged block-pattern ones. The front fender has been chopped for a more butch look. For a more retro feel, the stock LED headlamp has been replaced by a circular LED unit and the crash guard comes with a set of auxiliary lamps. In the ergonomics department, the handlebar has been swapped with an aftermarket unit. The circular aftermarket rear view mirrors, bar-end indicators with brown handlebar grips, and quilted brown seat give the bike a sense of individuality and that much needed premium quotient.

Topping things off at the rear is a shortened license plate holder. The rest of the motorcycle appears to be stock. It is powered by a KTM 390 Duke-derived 373.3cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which churns out 35PS at 8000rpm and 35Nm at 6500rpm. The engine works in conjunction with a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. Bajaj hasn’t updated the Dominar 400 yet for the Philippines market. There, the motorcycle comes with a claimed top speed of 148kmph.

We’d have liked it if the custom house had raised the suspension and had replaced the stock belly pan with a sturdier metal one. That would give the bike a complete scrambler-esque look. Unfortunately, the bike runs on the same stock telescopic front fork and rear gas-charged monoshock. Brakes include 320mm front and 230mm rear disc with standard dual-channel ABS.

All said and done, while the modifications aren’t all that extensive, it is still a tastefully made scrambler custom.
