Apart from the extra engine capacity, what more does the Aprilia offer over the KTM?

Storming in the quarter-litre supersport category, Aprilia launched the 2021 GPR250R in China. While the Italian steed hasn’t made it to India, we still have the KTM RC 200 keeping us delighted in the entry-level sportbike segment. So, we’ve compared the two bikes visually and here are the results.

On the design front, the Aprilia GPR250R mocks the bigger sibling, the RSV4. It sports a three-piece LED headlight with integrated winglets below it. Even the rear end has gotten quite sleek and sharp with the 2021 update. On the other hand, the KTM RC 200 has carried the same design since its inception. You get a sharp fascia housing twin projector headlamps with LED DRLs.

Powering the baby-supersport from Noale is the 250cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor, pumping a claimed 27.8PS and 21.5Nm. It’s mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The KTM RC 200 packs fewer cubes as it gets a 199.5cc, single-cylinder motor churning out 25PS and 19.2Nm. The RC 200 too gets a 6-speed gearbox.

Apart from LED lights all around, the Aprilia GPR250R gets a full-colour TFT display as well. Taking things up a notch, Aprilia has also thrown in the smartphone connectivity provision too. Meanwhile, the KTM RC 200 misses out on the TFT display and the connectivity feature as well.

The Aprilia GPR250R uses a perimeter frame suspended on an inverted front fork and a rear monoshock. It also gets an asymmetrical swingarm. As for the KTM RC 200, it gets a trellis frame and is sprung on a WP USD front fork and a monoshock.

Braking hardware for the Aprilia quarter-litre comprises a 300mm single front disc and a 218mm rear unit with ABS as standard, whereas the KTM uses a 300mm front and 230mm rear unit. Both the bikes roll on 17-inch alloys.

While 14-litre may not seem a lot, the Aprilia GPR250R’s fuel tank is notably larger than the KTM RC 200’s 9.5-litre tank.

In China, the Aprilia GPR250R retails at Rs 3.08 lakh (excluding taxes) whereas the KTM RC 200 costs Rs 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Aprilia does have plans to introduce a 300cc supersport for India and even KTM has been working on the 2021 RC 200 that has been spotted a few times now
