2026 Kawasaki KLE 500 Launched Abroad: Ninja 500’s Heart But With Go-anywhere Capability

Kawasaki has officially revived the KLE name with the global launch of the 2026 KLE 500, re-entering the middleweight adventure bike space after a long hiatus of 18 years (Kawasaki used to sell the older generation from 1991 to 2007). The new model aims to bridge the gap between entry-level ADVs such as the Versys X-300 (sold in select markets including India) and the larger global model, the Versys 650.

Design

The 2026 Kawasaki KLE 500 stays true to the classic adventure-bike form, with tall, purposeful proportions and rally-inspired design. It sports a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheel setup wrapped in dual-purpose tyres, a tall adjustable windscreen, and slim side panels to aid rider movement when standing up on the pegs.

It’s available in two variants: Standard and SE. The SE variant gets additional equipment like a larger windscreen and skid plate, engine guards, LED indicators and knuckle guards. 

Engine

At its heart lies the familiar 451cc parallel-twin engine from the Ninja 500. Although Kawasaki has not mentioned the power and torque specs of the motor, it makes 45.4PS and 42.6Nm in the Ninja 500, so expect this one to be tuned differently. We also know that the gearing is different from the Ninja, with larger sprockets for a better low-end performance to suit its ADV characteristics. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and Assist & Slipper clutch. 

Underpinnings

The 500cc Kawasaki adventure bike gets a steel trellis frame, with the engine used as a stressed member. It gets long-travel suspension, a 43mm inverted fork with 210mm wheel travel up front and a monoshock with 200mm wheel travel at the rear.

Braking is handled by a 300mm front disc and 240mm rear disc, with switchable ABS available at the touch of a button. The seat height is set at 860mm, reinforcing its off-road intent, though one has the option to go for a lower seat height too.

Features

The Standard variant comes with an LCD instrument console, halogen indicators, and a smaller skid plate. The SE variant, meanwhile, gets a 4.3-inch TFT display, all-LED lighting, knuckle guards, and a beefier skid plate. Even though the standard variant misses out on the TFT, we feel that it won't matter much, as both variants do feature smartphone connectivity.

Priced at USD 6,599 (around Rs 5.79 lakh) for the Standard and USD 7,499 (around Rs 6.67 lakh) for the SE, the KLE 500 re-enters a competitive mid-capacity adventure segment.

Deliveries for the motorcycle will begin in March 2026 globally, and as for India, Kawasaki hasn’t yet confirmed if the KLE 500 will be launched in India. If it does, then we might expect it to be launched later next year. It will face tough competition from the Honda NX500, Benelli TRK 502, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, KTM 390 Adventure, and upcoming adventure bikes such as the BMW F 450 GS, CFMoto 450MT, and the Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr.

The KLE’s return signals Kawasaki’s renewed focus on approachable adventure machines, and if priced right, it could emerge as a serious contender in the segment.
