Honda Dio has been the pick of youngsters for it's styling, handling and low seat height

    Overview

Due to the sporty styling of Honda Dio, this scooter is popular primarily amongst the youngsters. The company launched Dio in India over a decade back and it can be said India’s first moto scooter in real sense.

The Honda Dio is powered by the same 109cc engine that runs the company’s other scooters. The engine comes mated to an automatic gearbox and it churns out respective power and torque figures of 8bhp and 9Nm.

The Honda Dio gets 130mm drum brakes for braking that further come linked to the company’s Combi Braking System (CBS) for effective and better braking. The suspension system of the scooter comes with bottom link type unit up front along with spring loaded hydraulic shock absorbers for the rear.

The Honda Dio comes with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and also has a sporty instrument cluster. The overall design language is indeed sporty and for this reason, the scooter finds youngsters as its main buyers.

The 2017 Honda Dio is currently available at the dealerships at a price of Rs 49,200 (Ex showroom, Delhi). The sporty scooter can be picked from five impressive paint schemes. The Dio competes with the Yamaha Fascino, Hero Maestro Edge and TVS Jupiter in the segment.

    Design

The front section of Honda Dio gets an edgy headlamp unit that finds its placement at the apron rather than the usual front cowl. Honda launched the 2017 edition of the scooter with a BS-IV engine and some really attractive graphics that makes it stand out from the rest.

The all black theme of the scooter indeed offers it a bad boy image as against the traditional sober image of automatic scooters generally found in the Indian two-wheeler market. The new Honda Dio has overall body dimensions of 1781mm x 710mm x 1133mm (LxBxH) and has respective wheelbase and a minimum ground clearance of 1238mm and 158mm.

The scooter has been fitted with a 5.3 litre fuel tank and has a total kerb weight of 103 kgs. As far as the features go, the Honda Dio gets LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) at the front cowl along with a trendy instrument cluster. The Dio also receives a maintenance free battery that proves less hefty on the pocket.

    Features

The Honda Dio comes with a powerful headlamp upfront that offers good illumination at nights. The scooter now comes enabled with Automatic Headlamp ON (AHO) facility due to which the headlight of the vehicle stays always ON whether it is day or night. The said feature has been made mandatory by the Government of India starting April 2017 to minimise the number of two wheeler fatalities. The scooter also gets 130mm drum brakes at both ends that offer a decent feedback and bite.

Honda Dio BS4 (2012-2020) Latest Updates

The Honda Dio BS6 has been launched in India. The BS6 Honda Dio is priced at Rs 59,990 for the Standard variant and Rs 63,340 for the Deluxe variant. Additionally, the scooter also gets an external fuel filler cap, side stand indicator with engine cut-off function. It also comes with a redesigned, fully digital instrument cluster which now shows real time and average mileage apart from the regular trove of information.

The scooter rides on bigger 12-inch steel wheels up front and it also now comes with a standard telescopic fork. At the rear, it employs a new 3-step preload-adjustable monoshock and a 10-inch wheel. The 130mm drum brakes with CBS have remained unchanged. The Honda Dio BS6 goes head-to-head against the Hero Maestro Edge FI in the 110cc sporty scooter segment.
