Yezdi Roadking India Launch Confirmed

The retro bike will likely be launched late this year or early next year
Yezdi made a comeback into the Indian market with not one but three motorcycles: Yezdi Adventure, Yezdi Roadster and Yezdi Scrambler. We’d expected the bikemaker to launch a modern avatar of the legendary Yezdi Roadking, but things panned out differently in reality. That said, Yezdi hasn’t completely ignored the Roadking. In fact, Yezdi’s parent company Classic Legends’ co-founder Anupam Thareja has confirmed that the Roadking is indeed in the works.
Will be a flagship Yezdi retro motorcycle:
Thareja revealed that the upcoming Roadking will be Yezdi’s flagship offering, and will not be based on the company’s current platform. The current Yezdi Adventure and Scrambler’s boxy engine casing, classic-style fuel tank, and simple side panels give us a fair idea about how the upcoming Roadking scrambler will look like. The retro roadster is also likely to be loaded with modern features including an all-LED lighting system, semi-digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity and navigation, USB charging port, and a dual-channel ABS with multiple modes.
Will perhaps be a 650cc bike?
Thareja also added that the upcoming Yezdi Roadking will feature a bigger engine than its current range. Now, Classic Legends also has BSA under its umbrella, so the next natural step for Yezdi seems to borrow the recently unveiled BSA Gold Star’s 650cc single-cylinder engine. This liquid-cooled motor in the BSA churns out 45.6PS and 55Nm, but expect it to be downsized a bit in the Yezdi to ensure competitive pricing. That said, only time will tell whether Yezdi will use this engine or come up with an all-new one.
When will it be launched? What are its rivals?
Yezdi did hint that depending on the ongoing covid-19 pandemic situation, the Roadking will be back soon. Considering Yezdi is currently focussing on its existing lineup, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Roadking is launched only by the end of this year or early next year. If Yezdi goes the 650cc route, it could be priced at around Rs 2.6 lakh (ex-showroom), and will be an ideal rival to the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
