Yamaha FZ-X Trademarked: New FZ 250 Variant Or 250cc ADV Offering?

Yamaha could finally enter the ADV touring segment in India next year

Yamaha could finally enter the ADV touring segment in India next year

[UPDATE: Yamaha has launched the FZ-X in India. Check out our launch story for the price, specs and other details.]

It’s no secret that Yamaha has been working on an adventure tourer offering for the Indian market. We had heard rumours that few units of the Yamaha WR 155 were brought down to India for testing and customer feedback. However, we haven’t heard anything more since then. Now, though, Yamaha has trademarked the name FZ-X, giving rise to speculation that it may be its upcoming ADV offering for India.

Yamaha has the XTZ-250 Lander on sale in South American markets. The 250 Lander is a hardcore dual-purpose bike with a long-travel suspension, a tall seat height of 78m, and proper off-road components. Yamaha is highly unlikely to get this bike to India, but interestingly, the Yamaha FZ25 and the Lander 250 are powered by the same 250cc motor with similar bore and stroke figures. In fact, the Yamaha Lander 250 was spotted on Indian soil in 2015, but for our market, we expect the FZ-X to be more of a mellowed-down ADV bike with more focus on touring and comfort, something on the lines of the Suzuki V-Strom 250.

It’s also possible that the Yamaha FZ-X is a new variant of the FZ 250. The Japanese brand recently introduced the Yamaha FZ-S Fi Vintage Edition and it could have trademarked the name for a similar purpose. However, we are hoping the Yamaha FZ-X 250 turns out to be a 250 ADV offering as it has no presence in the adventure tourer segment in India. Watch this space for more updates.

Best low budget 250cc bike

I have this bike from 2018 and no problem faced till date. Maintenance is cheap, no matter how long you have not started the bike, still it starts in one self. Only draw back is now, I don't get parts and it doesn't have abs feature. I have driven 2500 km in a row with ease and no problem faced. Tubeless tyres. Read More

The Most reliable and efficient 250cc Motorcycle

Reliability was the primary reason as Yamaha Engines are very Reliable. The Maintenance is pocket friendly and the bike has minimum Electronics. The Bike offers amazing mileage which is higher than any other 250cc bike. The Bike is always Smooth to ride even after 7 years. Maintenance has always been basic apart from the replacement of a few wear and rear parts which were mechanical and not very costly. The spare parts availability also was good enough for Yamaha genuine spare parts. This is the most user friendly motorcycle in the 250cc segment. The power output may appear less on paper but the power to weight Ratio is superb which makes this bike easy to manage in traffic and also to control on ghats. The bike always stands out in terms of looks.Read More
