Just one and a half months ago Yamaha Motor India launched its sporty new Ray ZR 110cc scooter in India. Now continuing the excitement, the company today launched the disc brake variant of its successful scooter Cygnus Alpha. The new trim is priced at Rs 52,556 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it gets a front disc brake endowing it with better braking performance. Besides this, it also gets 2 new exciting colour options -- Radiant Cyan and Marvel Black -- with a fresh graphic pattern.

Commenting on the new variant launch, Roy Kurian, vice president, sales & marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd said, “The scooter market has witnessed rapid growth in the last few years and Yamaha has been able to make steady inroad in this segment. Yamaha is looking at reaching a 10 per cent market share by the end of this year and the introduction of this latest variant of the Cygnus Alpha scooter is expected to further propel its growth in the segment. This latest offering with disc brake is aimed at families who want that additional safety feature.”

Apart from the front disc brake and new colour scheme there is no other cosmetic or mechanical alteration in the scooter. It continues to use the same 113cc air-cooled engine that powers the entire Yamaha scooter fleet including the standard Alpha. Enabled with Blue Core Technology the motor produces 7.1PS at 7,500rpm and delivers a peak torque of 8.1Nm at 5,000rpm. The scooter also claims to return an impressive fuel efficiency of 66kmpl, which is best in class.

The Yamaha Alpha comes an under seat storage space of 21-litre, which is the largest in the respective segment, and also offers a long seat and large floorboard which provides ample space for both rider and pillion.  The new disc brake variant of the scooter will go on sale from mid-June 2016, and the drum brake variant will also be sold alongside.
