We expect the Chinese QJ Motor SRT 500 to be sold as the TRK 502 overseas

Ever since January, we’ve had a steady feed of spy shots, patent images and presentation leaks pertaining to Benelli’s lineup for the near future, most of which is borrowed from Chinese parent company QJ Motor. Now, the QJ Motor SRT 500 has broken cover in production form, and we expect this bike to be rebadged and sold as the Benelli TRK 502 in overseas markets, including India.

The bike was first seen in patent images a couple of months ago and the production version looks virtually unchanged. While the current TRK is a somewhat awkwardly proportioned and odd-looking bike, the SRT 500 sports a cohesive and handsome look. The single headlight-unit is a complex and interesting looking thing, and the bike’s overall dimensions look good.

As reported in our earlier story, we expect the SRT 500 to be sold in at least three different variants: one road-focused variant with alloy wheels and an aluminium swingarm (which will most likely become the standard TRK 502), alongside two off-road-friendly versions rolling on wire-spoke wheels (one or both of which will become the 502X). The only visible difference between these two is the higher spec Brembo calipers on one versus the unbranded (probably J Juan) units on the other.

The bits that convince us this SRT will be sold as the TRK abroad are the knuckle guards, which feature very prominent TRK branding on them. At 225kg (kerb), the upcoming TRK 502 will also be around 10kg lighter than the current bike, making it easier to muscle around off-road. An official unveil of the SRT in China is expected very soon, meaning that it could break cover as the Benelli TRK 502 sometime towards the end of this year or early next year, before coming to India soon thereafter.
