Units of VFR1200F recalled by Honda due to a technical glitch

Japanese Manufacturer Honda has recalled 1,852 units of its touring motorcycle VFR1200F due to a technical glitch in the machine’s drive shaft. Both the manual and DCT-equipped VFR1200F units are part of this recall. The maker had to take this major step as the defective bearing sealant of the propeller shaft can cause the bearings to wear out because of the heat caused by friction. This can lead to the bike to crash as the propeller shaft might interfere with the swing arm.

Till now, no major accidents have been reported due to this failure but one incident of component failure came in the limelight in Japan. To be on the safe side, the company will be replacing propeller shaft of all the VFR1200F motorcycles. This process will take time, as Honda will review all the units for their driveshafts to ascertain if it is affected or not as a precautionary measure and will be replacing all the faulty spares free of charge.

Coming to India, there is a possibility that somebody is riding the an affected unit as a few units of the VFR1200F were imported here through CBU but the Indian arm of the Japanese giant did not give any confirmation on the recall of units being sold in the country.

Recently, Honda was in the news for its upcoming CBR250RR which is getting ride-by-wire technology. The new bike is expected to take over the standard customary cable mechanism. Honda has not revealed any further details yet, but the bike is expected to hit the production plants by March 2016 in Indonesia. India launch of the CBR250RR won’t be given a green flag by the company any time soon but can expect to see the machine entering the country after few months of its launch.
