The scooter will continue to be available in select export markets

  • TVS Wego was launched in India back in 2010.
  • It was meant to be a slightly sportier sibling of the TVS Jupiter.
  • Jupiter has made the BS6 cut.

The TVS Wego 110 has been discontinued in India, ending its almost-ten-year run. The scooter has been removed from the brand’s official website and will not be updated to comply with BS6 emission norms. On the other hand, its more popular but relatively conservative-looking sibling, the Jupiter has received the BS6 update.

When asked about the discontinuation, the brand commented, “TVS Motor Company has the most comprehensive scooter portfolio for consumers in India based on the first and only dual-platform Fi technology. In the current environment, we want to streamline to enhance dealer profitability, TVS WEGO remains in production for select export markets.”

It makes good business sense for the brand to offer the carburetted BS4-compliant TVS Wego in select markets abroad where the emission norms aren’t as strict as India. Moreover, the scooter wasn’t all that popular in the Indian market. In the last three months (January, February and March 2020), the scooter tallied 266, 264 and 103 units respectively. These numbers are pretty low for a 110cc scooter considering the Jupiter averaged around 30,300 units in the same period. So it makes more sense for TVS to sustain its business by offering the scooter in other markets where it might have a better chance of surviving compared to the Indian market.

The TVS Wego is powered by a 109.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled carbureted BS4-compliant engine, generating 7.99PS at 7500rpm and 8.4Nm at 5500rpm. The scooter employs a telescopic fork up front and a gas-charged single shock absorber at the rear. Brakes include either a 130mm drum or a 220mm disc up front and a 130mm drum at the rear with CBS as standard. TVS had pegged the Wego at Rs 53,469 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base variant.
