The brand is aiming to develop public as well as dealership charging stations for its iQube Electric

TVS Motor Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL) to develop and expand charging infrastructure for the TVS iQube Electric.

The fully owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will help the Hosur-based company establish a vast charging network, including public and dealership charging stations. The brand may even offer free charging initially before switching to a subscription-based service, similar to Ather Energy.

The TVS iQube Electric is currently on sale only in Bengaluru and Delhi, whereas its competitor, Ather Energy, has expanded to over 18 cities. In fact, the startup is also looking at Assam. Now, TVS has announced it intends to launch the iQube in 20 cities this fiscal year.

With the Indian government taking several measures to promote electric mobility in the country, brands have begun investing heavily in charging infrastructure as well. Ola Electric has announced it will be setting up 1 lakh EV charging stations across 400 cities in India. Even the Hero MotoCorp-Gogoro Electric alliance will introduce a reliable charging infrastructure courtesy the Taiwanese company’s expertise in battery swapping technology.
