Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., the wholly owned Indian subsidiary of the Italian Piaggio Group, has announced the launch of its original iconic Vespa in India heralding an era of premium lifestyle in the two-wheeler scooter category. Initially, the Vespa LX125 will be available at exclusive showrooms across 35 major cities. This launch, priced at Rs. 66,661 (ex-showoom, Mumbai) will fill the void for a premium offering in the scooter segment. For the distinctive owners of the much-awaited Piaggio Vespa LX125, the price tag will be secondary as the pride of ownership will be foremost. Mr. Roberto Colaninno, Chairman and CEO, Piaggio Group in his message conveyed that, “Today is a proud and historic moment for me and Piaggio. The Vespa is a loved and revered brand globally and we are very excited to launch the original Vespa in India.

The Vespa is not just our most famous and bestselling product around the world; it is also our business card, our technological flagship! We will bring India into the league of international markets where consumers are looking to own nothing but the best. I am optimistic about the India growth story”. Vespa is an ageless brand that has become a symbol of a distinctive lifestyle in market after market around the world. A masterpiece created by Piaggio in 1946, the Vespa is one of the most famous world icons of Italian technology and style. Vespa is a unique example of immortal design that has gone beyond a mere commuting product to become a part of social history and way of life. In India, Piaggio will not compete with existing players, but will chart an entirely different course by creating an exclusive and unique segment for the brand. It will be a disruptive force in the two-wheeler scooter space and will create a multitude of opportunities for the Vespa.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ravi Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited (India) said, “There is no better time to be in the Indian two-wheeler scooter space with evolved consumers looking for lifestyle options that go beyond mobility. I am confident, fashion and style conscious consumers will make Vespa a resounding success in India”. The Vespa is positioned as a timeless and ageless lifestyle product that leverages its rich heritage and unique values to appeal to the finer emotions of the consumer. It is Piaggio’s endeavor to cater to the aspirational needs of the fashion, style and brand conscious individuals, who would like to be exclusive, distinctive and in fact a breed apart. This is the segment of consumers who have a zest for life and aspire to reach the pinnacle of success and achievement!

Piaggio is creating exclusive accessories and merchandise for the fashionados who will adorn the specially designed range to compliment the stylish Vespa. In addition, consumers will soon be able to celebrate the Vespa and the pride of ownership through exclusive Vespa Clubs just the way the world does all over! Vespa’s smooth contours carry the aerodynamic DNA of an airplane. It boasts to be the only scooter in the world with a single piece monocoque steel body construction. The front suspension system in the Vespa has an aircraft derived single sided trailing arm for an excellent and comfortable ride.

Piaggio is presenting to India a retro-classic Vespa that not only comes with a whole series of design and ergonomic marvels but also marks the worldwide debut of a completely new engine developed on the basis of extensive research for the Indian market. This new engine is eco-friendly and highly fuel efficient. It is a new generation global engine which will also be produced in Piaggio’s other manufacturing facilities in Europe and Asia. Piaggio India has set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for production of the Vespa at Baramati in Maharashtra. The plant inauguration and product roll out is scheduled on 28th April 2012.

Waiting for offers to buy the scooter

I saw the scooter and liked it very much. When I enquired about it, I was shocked to know that the scooter is this much expensive. I felt this shock two times in two days. First, I got to know that the top end variant of Maruti S Cross is costing Rs. 16 lac, after that, heard about overpriced Vespa. I hope there will be some cost cutting later on, as the scooter is not worth its price. One can think of buying it for Rs. 60,000 to 65,000 but I don’t think anyone would pay over Rs. 70,000 to buy it. It carries great looks and is available in dynamic shades to complete its class. I am eagerly waiting for its price to decrease so that I can buy the scooter as I am liking it very much. I am Shravan Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, please reply me here if you get any information about the decrease in Vespa’s price. I hope this review will be helpful for others. Thank you.Read More

Killer Looks

I purchased Vespa yesterday after hearing a lot of good things about it. The scooter is so smooth that sometimes you do not feel that its ignition is on when standing on a traffic signal. It is also well balanced and offers smooth running. Over these benefits, it is putting out a great mileage of 50 to 55 kmpl, I hope that the mileage will increase after its first service. The all new scooter reached to the speed of 90 kmph in a stretch of just 500 meters, that shows its power output. The stopping power is great and the tyres provide a good grip on the road. Its on-road price is around Rs. 77,000. If you are a scooter design fan, you should spend your earnings on it, otherwise, it is a costly scooter that will offer classic looks but perform like some others. Vespa is good for those who find these kinds of scooters attractive, it is only meant for them.Read More

Attractive retro style

Vespa is the non-geared two-wheeler from Piaggio. It is the only scooter in the country with retro looks and is being liked by most of the people. I bought my Vespa Elegante last month. I thought it would be powerful but it is not. It generates a maximum power output of around 10 bhp. But Vespa is stable, well-balanced and offers smooth running even on speeds over 70 kmph. It is a bit costly and goes to Rs.90,000 with its top end variant. It has both the electric and the kick start option for rider’s convenience. The old school looks of Vespa and its smooth running attracted me to buy the scooter. 7 litres of fuel tank capacity and boot space is enough to store a helmet and other small stuff. The headlight provides a good view of the road and high seating keeps you safe as you can see the potholes from a distance and can avoid them. Vespa is not worth its cost but is a good scooter overall.Read More
