KTM 160 Duke Teased Again, Yamaha MT-15 Rival Launching Sooner Than You Think

KTM India has teased the upcoming 160 Duke again through its social media channels. The bike will be based on the 200 Duke, but some of the underpinnings seem to be borrowed from the KTM RC200. It is going to be the most affordable KTM bike in India, and will be the replacement of the now discontinued 125 Duke.
The new teaser image reveals that the bike will get the lighter alloy wheels as well as the same lighter front and rear discs from the current KTM RC 200. Just like the RC200, this one also gets the disc mounted on the left side, and hence it may have the same fork as the RC200. Interestingly, all the new light-weight discs from KTM for small capacity bikes come only in one size: 320mm front and 230mm rear. To keep things uniform, we wouldn’t be surprised if it gets the same front and rear disc as the RC200. While such a huge front disc for a 160cc bike feels a little overkill, we wouldn’t complain as it only makes the bike safer. That said, the trellis frame and the rear monoshock might be the same as the 200 Duke.
Other than these aspects, the design is expected to be largely similar to the current 200 Duke. The big change will be the engine, which is expected to be a downsized version of the 200 Duke’s motor. This liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine is expected to produce close to 20PS and around 16Nm. For perspective the Yamaha MT 15 makes 18.4PS and 14.1Nm. The bike is also expected to get the 5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, and dual channel ABS.

If our expected price of Rs 1.75 to Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 160 Duke turns out to be correct, then it will be the most affordable KTM bike in India, and will play a big role in improving the sales considerably as this segment is pretty popular among the masses. KTM may launch the Duke 160 in the coming weeks. This will then be followed by the RC 160 by October 2025.
The Yamaha MT 15 and the R15 are the only bikes in the segment with a liquid-cooled engine. While Yamaha may enjoy the monopoly now, things might change soon with the new KTM bikes coming into the picture. However, KTM will be able to make a dent in this segment only if it prices its upcoming 160cc bikes competitively.
