Kawasaki Ninja 400 Discontinued: No Change In Ninja 500 Price

The Kawasaki Ninja 500 costs the same as the Ninja 400 before the discounts on the latter

Kawasaki has discontinued the Kawasaki Ninja 400 in India and now the model has been removed from the Kawasaki India website as well. The Kawasaki Ninja 500, launched in February is its successor, but Kawasaki continued selling the Ninja 400 until stocks last.

The manufacturer had given a discount of Rs 40,000 on the Ninja 400 over its ex-showroom price of Rs 5,24,000, valid until stocks last. Interestingly, the Kawasaki Ninja 500 was also launched at the same price of Rs 5.24 lakh as the Ninja 400, and more importantly, its price has now remained unchanged.

The Ninja 400 was powered by a 399cc, liquid-cooled parallel twin engine which produces 45.4PS and 37Nm. Compared to the Ninja 500, which is powered by a 451cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that produces 45.4PS and 42.6Nm, the Ninja 400 produces the same power but 5.6Nm less torque.

In terms of underpinnings, the main difference between the two bikes is the brakes. The Ninja 400 came with a 286mm disc at the front and a 193mm disc at the rear. The Ninja 500 on the other hand features a larger, 310mm front and 240mm rear disc. So overall the Ninja 500 has brought on some small but key upgrades over the Ninja 400.

Since the price has remained unchanged, customers can now buy a better Kawasaki bike which has more performance and better underpinnings, for the same price.

The Ninja 500 primarily competes with the Aprilia RS 457 which is Rs 1,14,000 cheaper. Other supersport alternatives include the Yamaha R3 and the KTM RC 390.
