The recently launched Honda SP 125 is the brand’s first BS6-compliant motorcycle in India. It is also the successor to the CB Shine SP, which has been one of the best-selling 125cc motorcycles in the country for some time now. But while the CB Shine is sold in four variants, Honda has simplified things and given the SP 125 just two variants.
The two variants are quite simply Disc and Drum. The disc variant is fitted with a 240mm front disc brake, while the drum variant has to make do with a 130mm drum brake at the front. Both variants come equipped with a 130mm rear drum brake as well as a combined braking system (CBS). The rest of the motorcycle remains mechanically identical across both variants.
The drum variant sells for Rs 72,900 while the disc variant will set you back by Rs 77,100. This is a rise of around Rs 7,500 over the equivalent variants of the CB Shine SP. The SP 125 has had to make use of fuel-injection to comply with BS6 emission norms, which is the main reason why costs have gone up. It also has other segment-first features like a fully-digital instrument cluster and an engine kill switch.
The 124cc motor in the SP 125 produces 10.8PS and 10.9Nm, which is slightly more than the Shine’s output of 10.16PS and 10.3Nm. Honda also claims that the new SP 125 is more fuel efficient than the CB Shine SP. For a more detailed look at the new bike, check out our image gallery.
