[UPDATEHero Super Splendor BS6 Unveiled]

  • The updated 125cc motor makes similar power as the BS4 model.
  • It gets a 5-speed gearbox instead of the BS4 model’s 4-speed gearbox.
  • Expect the bike to be available in two variants -- drum and disc.

Hero MotoCorp doesn’t want to wait till the April 1 deadline to update its entire range to meet BS6 emission norms. Apart from launching the new Glamour 125 and the Passion Pro, the bike maker has now unveiled the BS6 Super Splendor. As you might have thought, it gets the same BS6 treatment as other motorcycles out there. It now comes with a range of new paint schemes and decals as well as some mechanical changes to make it comply with the new emission norms.

The BS6-compliant 124.7cc engine now makes around 11PS of power at 7500rpm, which is similar to the BS4 model. However, peak torque has increased by 0.4Nm, at 10.6Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a new 5-speed gearbox, which we believe is the same unit found in the new Glamour 125.

Apart from the updated engine, there are minor tweaks here and there as well. For instance, Hero claims that the suspension travel has been increased by 14 per cent at the front and 9 per cent at the rear. Surprisingly, at 122kg, the BS6-compliant Super Splendor is lighter by 3kg compared to the older BS4 model! We also expect the new Super Splendor to be available in two variants -- drum and disc.

As of now, Hero hasn’t revealed the prices yet and nor has it announced any information regarding deliveries of the updated bike. However, according to our dealer sources, Hero could launch the motorcycle by the first week of April. Expect a price hike of around Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 over the BS4 variant, which retails at Rs 60,800 (ex-showroom).

In terms of competition, it goes up against the Honda SP125 and the Bajaj Pulsar 125
