Here’s a closer look at the newly launched Maestro Edge and what it has to offer
Hero MotoCorp has finally launched the much-awaited Maestro Edge 125 in India. The scooter features an aggressive design language was first showcased in 2018 at the Auto Expo. It gets a bigger engine, more features and new colours schemes compared to the 110cc model. Here are key aspects of the Maestro Edge 125 that will help you better understand the new scooter.
Design:
In terms of styling, the Maestro Edge 125, with its sharp and angular design language, looks identical to its kin, the Maestro Edge 110. However, the former gets a two-tone colour scheme for the Fi variant - Pearl Fadeless White and Panther Black - which sets it apart from the younger brother. As for the carb variant, it gets four colours - Matte Blue, Matte Brown, Matte Vernier Grey and Matte Red. The 125cc model also gets blacked out rear view mirrors instead of the dual tone units on the Maestro Edge 110.
Features:
On the feature front, the Maestro Edge 125 comes with an analogue-digital instrument console, a 4-in-one key fob, an external fuel filler cap and a mobile charging port with boot lamp. Additionally, the scooter also features an LED DRL on the front apron, diamond cut alloy wheels and Integrated Braking System (IBS) as standard.
Variants:
The newly launched scooter is available in three variants - fuel-injection, carb with a disc brake up front or carb with drum brakes at either ends.
Engine:
Powering the scooter is a 125cc engine that’s offered with two different fuel delivery systems - fuel-injection and carb. It’s, in fact, the very first scooter in the country to feature a Fi engine. As a result, the Maestro Edge 125 puts out 9.2PS at 7000rpm and a peak torque of 10.2Nm at 5000rpm.
The carb variant, on the other hand, uses a 125cc Energy Boost Engine which generates 8.7PS of power at 6750rpm, and the same torque output as the Fi variant. That said, unlike the Maestro Edge 125 Fi, the carb version benefits from Hero’s patented i3s (Idle-Stop-Start-System) technology.
Notably, the Maestro Edge 125 Carb gets a slightly bigger 5.5-litre fuel tank as opposed to the Fi variant’s 5-litre unit.
Price:
With three variants on offer, the Maestro Edge 125 caters to a broader customer base. The Maestro Edge Fi, for instance, is priced at Rs 62,700 while the carb variant, which comes with i3S and a front disc brake, will set you back by Rs 60,000. The most affordable option here is the Maestro Edge 125 i3S carb with drum brake, which carries a price tag of Rs 58,500 (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). This makes it the second most affordable option in the 125cc scooter space in India after the Hero Destini 125. Bookings for the Hero Maestro Edge 125 will commence on 16 May 2019.
In terms of competition, the scooter goes up against the Suzuki Access 125, TVS NTorq 125 and the Honda Activa 125.
