Harley-Davidson Sportster S Launched In India At Rs 15.5 Lakh

It is Harley-Davidson’s second bike to use the Revolution Max 1250 engine after the Pan America

After unveiling the bike in July this year, Harley-Davidson has now launched the Sportster S at the India Bike Week. It retails at Rs 15.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is Rs 1.25 lakh less than the Fat Bob 114.

For the money, the Sportster S packs a lot of kit. To start off, you get a comparatively sportier design language than the ‘ideal’ Harley cruisers. This is thanks to the flat-tracker inspiration adopted by the American company, evident from the radical tail end, flat seat (which is just 753mm high), and upswept exhausts.

And to round off the pizazz, the Harley-Davidson Sportster S comes shod with features like all-LED illumination, adjustable levers, a USB charging port, and a Bluetooth-enabled 4-inch TFT instrument cluster with turn-by-turn navigation and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Not to forget, the TFT instrument cluster also helps toggle through the electronics package which includes four riding modes, switchable traction control, cruise control, cornering ABS with rear-wheel lift-off mitigation, and engine brake control. Quite uncanny for a Harley, eh?

Coming to the heart of the matter, the Sportster S is powered by a 1250cc, twin-cylinder engine. Yes, this is essentially the same engine from the Pan America, but it’s been re-tuned to pump out 122.3PS and 125Nm, and prioritise low-end torque rather than outright grunt.

The engine is housed in a trellis frame, sprung on a 43mm inverted front fork and monoshock, both fully adjustable. Meanwhile, the bike rolls on 17/16-inch tyres clamped by a 320mm front and a 260mm rear disc.

In India, the Sportster S goes against the Indian FTR 1200, which is a more purpose-oriented flat tracker than the former.
