Inspired from the legendary hill climb event, the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak edition comes with additional features and commands a premium of upto Rs 5.43 lakh

Just a week after the launch of the Multistrada 1260 and 1260S, Ducati has now launched the Ducati Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak edition in India. Priced at Rs 21.42 lakh (ex-showroom), this more road-biased Multistrada is inspired from the famous American hill climb race - Pikes Peak, which is held in Colorado.

So what do you get for an additional Rs 5.43 lakh and Rs 3.36 lakh over the 1260 and 1260S respectively? For starters, with the Pikes Peak edition, you get 3kg lighter forged aluminium wheels as compared to the ones found on the 1260S. It also gets more premium Ohlins forks at the front and Ohlins TTX36 shock at the rear, both mechanically adjustable.

In addition to this, the motorcycle gets carbon fibre bits sprinkled all across the body, which can be seen on the small fly screen, front mudguard, knuckle guards and the front side panels. Ducati has also equipped the Pikes Peak edition with a carbon fibre Ducati Performance silencer developed by Termignoni.

As expected, the Pikes Peak edition carries forward features from the 1260S like cornering ABS, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), 8-level Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Cruise control and different riding modes - Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. It also gets a new TFT instrument console with phone connectivity which lets you control phone calls and text messages via the switchgear.

Powering the motorcycle is the same 1262cc L-twin Ducati Testatretta DVT engine, which produces 160PS of power at 9500rpm and a torque of 129.5Nm at 7500rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a quickshifter. Here’s the bikemaker’s official statement.

Ducati India brings the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak for the Indian market

New Delhi, June 25, 2018: Ducati India today announced the launch of the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak edition here in India. The Pikes Peak version - which draws its inspiration from the legendary American hill climb race (Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race in Colorado)– really brings out the sports character of the Multistrada 1260.

The announcement comes immediately after legendary Ducati racer Carlin Dunne has led the 2018 Spider Grips Ducati Pikes Peak team to victory and reclaimed the crown as King of the Mountain during this year’s annual running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC). Dunne completed today’s “Race to the Clouds” in 9:59:102. Rounding out the Ducati team this year was new member Codie Vahsholtz, who finished in third with a time of 10:12:703. This is Ducati’s seventh victory on the mountain since the company’s debut in 2008.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, also known as the "The Race to the Clouds", is held in an area of the Rocky Mountains some 16 km west of Colorado Springs. A distance of 20 kilometres separates the starting line, at an altitude of 2,862 metres, from the finishing line at 4,300 m. It's an incredibly tough competition.

“We did it. We took the podium,” said Dunne, who notably was the first motorcyclist ever to traverse the 4,720-foot Pikes Peak race course in less than 10 minutes in 2012. “The Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak proved as amazing as we all hoped. It performed flawlessly, giving me everything I needed to get up the mountain. Pikes Peak is never an easy race, but the weather cooperated and we clinched the victory for Ducati.”

Developed on the technical foundations of the Multistrada 1260 S, the Pikes Peak version benefits from the 1262 cc Euro 4 compliant Ducati Testastretta DVT engine and new chassis dimensions, which include a new front end geometry and a longer swingarm. Along with a race-inspired colour scheme, the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak comes equipped with new forged aluminium wheels, which are lighter than those of the Multistrada 1260 S. In addition, the bike is fitted with the Öhlins fork and Öhlins TTX36 shock, which can both be adjusted mechanically.

“In line with our commitment of making the most desirable products available to the Indian riders we are extremely happy to announce that Ducati India will be bringing the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak model to the India market and our dealers will start taking bookings today onwards will deliveries beginning soon”. Said Sergi Canovas, Managing Director of Ducati India.

Only a limited numbers will be available in India at a price of INR 21.42 lacs ex showroom pan India.
