The gorgeous 1299 Panigale is on its way out, and the Final Edition is its last hurrah

The Final Edition Ducati 1299 Panigale R was unveiled at the eighth round of the World Superbike Championship on July 8, 2017, by Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali at Laguna Seca, California, USA. Now, a few days after its international debut, Ducati has launched the bike in India for Rs 59.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune), while the on-road price goes up to Rs 74.80 lakh in the city. Dealers have started accepting bookings for the bike and potential buyers can book the bike by paying a token amount of Rs 5 lakh. The bike will be imported from Ducati’s factory in Italy once the booking is done. The average waiting period is 30-40 days after the order is placed. The Panigale’s new tri-colour livery takes its roots from the Italian flag. To maintain exclusivity of the motorcycle, Ducati will number each unit of the motorcycle till the production continues.

Powering the Ducati 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is a 1285cc L-twin motor that makes a humongous 209PS of maximum power at 11,000rpm and a peak torque of 142Nm at 9000rpm. The bike is built on a monocoque aluminium chassis. Suspension duties are handled by Öhlins NIX30 43mm fully adjustable USD forks with TiN treatment with 120mm wheel travel at the front and fully adjustable Öhlins TTX36 unit with aluminium single-sided swingarm with 130mm wheel travel at the rear.

Braking duties are handled by two 330mm semi-floating disc rotors with radially mounted Brembo Monobloc four-piston callipers at the front and a 245mm disc rotor with two-piston callipers at the rear. Cornering ABS is offered as standard. The motorcycle is shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP 120/70 R17 tyres at the front and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP 200/55 R17 tyres at the rear. It weighs 168kg.

The 1299 gets top of the line electronic wizardry like a 6-axis Inertia measurement Unit (IMU), riding modes, power modes, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control EVO (DWC EVO), Ducati Slide Control (DSC), Engine Brake Control (EBC), Ducati Power Launch (DPL), Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) and Ducati Data Analyser + (DDA+). The bike gets titanium connecting rods and valves, balanced crankshaft, lithium-ion battery, auxiliary adjustment buttons, forged Marchesini aluminium wheels and Akrapovic exhaust. A more lunatic version of the bike, the 1299 Superleggera, was recently sold in India for Rs 1.12 crore; read more about the 1299 Superleggera here.
