The Chinese brand’s new flagship has been launched in its home market

  • The bike was first unveiled at EICMA last year.
  • It will be available in three variants: Heritage, Sport and Adventure.
  • Powered by a 693cc parallel-twin motor.

CFMoto’s flagship models have so far been powered by 650cc engines, meaning the newly launched 700CL-X now sits at the top of the range. The bike was first unveiled at EICMA last year and will be sold in three flavours: Heritage (a scrambler), Sport (a cafe racer) and Adventure (take a guess). As of now, only the Heritage has been launched in CFMoto’s home market at a price of 45,800 yuan or around Rs 4.93 lakh.

The Heritage is a handsome-looking scrambler that comes with a very tasteful brown leather seat and smart-looking alloy wheels in an 18-inch/17-inch combo. Dual-purpose tyres should give it some off-road capability, but it doesn’t appear to have much more ground clearance than its cafe racer counterpart, and the exhaust system is very exposed in the belly region.

Exhaling through this exhaust system is an all-new 693cc parallel-twin motor developing 74.78PS at 8500rpm and 68Nm at 6500rpm. For comparison, the Kawasaki 650cc parallel-twin churns out 68PS and 64Nm, meaning the CL-X is well equipped to take on its competition, especially since its kerb weight figure of 196kg is just 5kg more than the Z650.

Cycle parts are a high-spec affair as well, with the 700CL-X getting a fully-adjustable 41mm USD front fork from KYB and a linked monoshock from the same manufacturer, adjustable for preload and rebound damping. Gripping the road are Pirelli MT60 on-off road tyres and to bring the bike to a halt you have J Juan calipers biting on a single 320mm disc up front and a 260mm disc at the rear.

It isn’t short on features either. The CL-X gets a Bosch EFI system, Continental ABS, power modes, LED lighting, digital instrumentation, a slipper clutch and even cruise control! As far as India is concerned, we expect the bike to arrive sometime next year and we’re quite eager to try it. Previous CFMoto bikes ridden by us have been impressive on paper but proven to be somewhat uninspiring in the real world. We hope the CL-X can buck this trend. The overseas pricing has given us a pleasant surprise by being extremely competitive, so we hope to see the bike sell for under Rs 6 lakh once it arrives on our shores.
