Gets 4 colours, including 2 new shades
Hero MotoCorp has launched the new top-end variant of the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V at Rs 1,34,100 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Hero calls this new variant as “Xtreme 160R 4V Cruise Control” in their official website. This variant is the most feature packed one in the Xtreme 160 lineup. Here’s everything you need to know:
What Is New?
The new variant features a more aggressive looking headlight, borrowed from the Hero Xtreme 250R. We quite like the way it looks, now that it is sleeker and sharper than the one on the base variant.

On the features side, as we had mentioned in our previous story, the bike now comes with a new colour-LCD console, a ride-by-wire throttle and gets features such as cruise control and riding modes which modulate the level of throttle response. For a more detailed breakdown of the features, you can check out our explainer here.

The new variant is offered in 4 colours, with 2 of them being brand new shades. The Kevlar Brown and Neon Shooting Star colours have been carried over from the base variant, whereas, the Matt Shadow Grey and Matt Slate Red are new shades. Take a look at the new colours in the carousel below:

What Is The Same?
Powering the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V Cruise Control variant is the same 163.2cc, air and oil-cooled engine which produces 16.9PS and 14.6Nm. The bike gets a KYB inverted fork and a monoshock suspension, and rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. Braking is handled by a 276mm front and 220mm disc brake setup, with dual-channel ABS.
BikeDekho Says
With all these new features, the new variant comes at a very reasonable premium of Rs 4,485. The new console has given the bike an upmarket feel and the addition of riding modes should make it possible for riders to fine tune their riding experience.

However, we are not so convinced about the utility of the cruise control system yet. The system should in theory help reduce rider fatigue when riding for long distances on the highway. But now Indian highways are usually packed with traffic, so it’ll force riders to modulate their speeds constantly, thus making the system pretty pointless in the real-world.
Unlike other manufacturers who usually have a top-down approach in introducing new technologies (in the more expensive models, and then later trickling down to cheaper products), Hero has chosen to go the bottom-up way, starting with the launch of the Glamour X 125 with segment-first cruise control and other features. This makes a lot of sense for Hero as most of its sales come from the lower-capacity models.
It’s also high-time the Xtreme 160R 4V got these upgrades as its rivals, the top-end versions of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V as well as Bajaj Pulsar NS160 got a whole bunch of feature updates earlier this year.
