TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Single Channel ABS: Variant Explained

This one offers the best value if you want connectivity and performance in a value-for-money package

TVS Apache Single Channel ABS is the second most affordable variant in the Apache RTR 160 4V range, right after the RM Disc variant. This one is positioned below the USD-equipped trims, and is priced at Rs 1,26,890 (ex-showroom Delhi). Here's what you get for paying a Rs 7,000 premium over the RM Disc variant:

Design & Styling

Visually, this variant sticks with a regular telescopic fork up front rather than the upside-down units found on the pricier trims, so the front end looks a touch simpler. It still gets the same projector-style headlamp with daytime running lights, tail lamp, and indicators  - all LED, by the way. This RTR 160 variant comes in Racing Red, Knight Black, and Metallic Blue. It misses out on some premium schemes like Marine Blue, Matte Black (with red alloy wheels), and Pearl White, which TVS keeps exclusive to the higher-spec Dual-Channel ABS and Special Edition trims.

Features

The instrument cluster here is an LCD screen rather than the colour TFT display reserved for the top-end variant. It still comes with TVS's SmartXonnect connectivity suite, bringing in turn-by-turn navigation, call alerts, and ride telemetry through a paired smartphone. What it doesn't get is traction control, that's exclusive to the range-topping variant.

Safety & Hardware

If you’re worried about the regular fork being a compromise in handling, don’t. Thankfully, even this fork is very well tuned, so you won’t really miss having an inverted one. The single-channel ABS offers a good balance of safety while keeping the price in check. Note that this one still gets a proper 240mm petal disc at the rear, to match the 270mm petal unit at the front.

It gets the same 17-inch wheels as the rest of the variants, wrapped with a 90-section front and a 130-section rear. The rear monoshock is common across all variants. Kerb weight comes in at 143kg, lighter than the USD-equipped variants above it.

Engine & Performance

Power comes from the same 159.7cc, air-oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine used across the entire RTR 160 4V range, with output shifting depending on the selected ride mode. Sport mode delivers 17.55PS at 9250rpm and 14.73Nm of torque at 7500rpm, while Urban and Rain modes bring that down to 15.64PS at 8650rpm and 14.14Nm at 7250rpm. The claimed top speed follows the same split, 114kmph in Sport and 103kmph in the other two modes.

You get a 5-speed gearbox with an assist-and-slipper clutch. In real-world testing, it delivered 42–45 kmpl across city and highway conditions. Combined with a 12-litre fuel tank, that translates to a practical range of roughly 500 km.

BikeDekho Says

The Single Channel ABS gets you the core RTR 160 4V riding experience, the peppy engine with riding modes, the connected app, and front-wheel ABS, without paying for the upside-down fork or the TFT screen. If rear-wheel ABS and a fancier display aren't dealbreakers for you, this variant covers what most riders would actually use day to day.
