TVS Apache RTR 160 4V: Explained In Images

The Apache RTR 160 4V is sporty enough to have fun on, AND practical enough for everyday riding

The Apache RTR 160 4V has always been one of the sportier options in the 160cc segment. Surprisingly, it is also a decent everyday commuter. It's quick, handles well, and comes with enough equipment to keep things interesting. Here's a closer look at what it's like:

Styling

TVS has retained the looks of the RTR 160 4V, like a sporty Apache, with sharp bodywork and plenty of racing-inspired details. The design is aggressive without making the bike look overly busy, while the USD variants get a few extra touches to set them apart.

Details:

  • In its latest update, Apache gets a projector LED headlight. While it should offer better illumination than conventional LEDs, its design could’ve been done a bit better, as it feels a bit too similar to the Bajaj Pulsar N160.

  • Other aspects such as the sharp tank extensions, offset fuel tank cap, and engine cowl look quite cool.

  • The gold-finished inverted fork on select variants gives it a premium appeal.

  • The 17-inch alloy wheels get colour-matched rim stickers on some versions, which works nicely with the graphics.

  • Build quality feels solid, with the plastics, switchgear and paint finish all giving a good impression.

Colours

The RTR 160 4V is available in several colours, with the exact shade options depending on the variant. Some shades are more understated, while others make the bike look considerably sportier. We’ve also done a full colour explainer for the Apache RTR 160 4V in a dedicated story

Comfort & Practicality

Despite the sporty styling, the RTR 160 4V doesn't force you into an uncomfortable riding position. The seat is wide and well padded, while the upright posture works well for everyday riding. Pillion space is also reasonable for shorter trips.

Details:

  • The riding position is fairly easy on the wrists and back, even during longer rides.

  • Riders coming from a commuter may need some time to get used to the slightly rear-set footpegs.

  • The pillion seat is long enough for short rides, and the grab rails are easy to reach.

Performance And Mileage

The RTR 160 4V gets a 159.7cc, four-valve engine that has a sporty character without feeling rough. It has enough low-end tractability for city riding, but the real fun comes when you keep the throttle open and let it rev.

Details:

  • The engine feels punchy and refined through most of the rev range.

  • Glide Through Technology makes crawling through traffic easier, while the light clutch and smooth gearbox make frequent shifts less tiring.

  • It stays comfortable around 90-100kmph on the highway, with minimal tank vibrations once you're past 6,000rpm.

  • In our testing, it returned around 42-45kmpl in mixed riding, which is pretty respectable for a sporty 160cc bike.

Features

The RTR 160 4V has a fairly long equipment list, with the higher variants bringing in more of the premium stuff. Even the LCD console is packed with useful information, while the top version adds the TFT and extra electronics.

Details:

  • The digital console displays useful riding data and race telemetry, while the 5-inch TFT gets a more detailed interface.

  • Bluetooth connectivity brings turn-by-turn navigation. The connectivity is available on all variants except the RM disc one.

  • The Urban, Sport, and  Rain riding modes let you change the bike's character depending on the situation. It changes the power and torque figures, and also the ABS sensitivity.

  • A hazard light switch is also included for added convenience.

Handling & Ride Quality

This is probably where the Apache makes the strongest case for itself. It feels light and easy to place in traffic, but there's enough stability to make faster riding enjoyable. The chassis also inspires confidence when you start leaning into corners.

Details:

  • The bike feels light on its feet in city traffic, making direction changes quick and easy.

  • It remains composed at triple-digit speeds and doesn't get easily unsettled by crosswinds.

  • The chassis feels predictable when cornering, while the tyres offer good grip.

  • The suspension can feel a little firm over sharper bumps, particularly at lower speeds.

  • Note that we’ve ridden the one with the regular fork. While it’s been tuned really well, expect the ones with an inverted fork to be even better when it comes to spirited riding. The rear gets a monoshock on all variants.

  • All the variants also get a disc brake at both ends, either with a single-channel ABS or dual-channel ABS.

  • The front disc brake has good bite and progressive stopping power.

Overall, the Apache RTR 160 4V works well because it doesn't make you choose between having fun and living with the bike every day. It's easy enough in traffic, enjoyable on a twisty road, and comfortable enough for longer rides. It’s an easy bike to recommend, and we say go for the one below the top-end variant for the best value for money.
