One of our correspondents spotted the motorcycle being tested close to Bajaj’s factory in Chakan

  • Expect the bike to be launched in early 2021.
  • It will undercut the KTM 200 Duke in terms of pricing.
  • The bike looks similar to the international-spec version, but expect the tyres to be from MRF.

We already know that the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401 are planned to be launched this year itself. Now, it looks like Husqvarna is all set to follow it up with the 200cc twins, as the Svartpilen 200 has been spotted by one of our colleagues near Bajaj’s plant in Chakan. While we couldn’t get the pictures as our colleague was riding a motorcycle alongside him, he was able to see quite a few important details.

A closer look at the black and white camouflaged motorcycle revealed it had the same engine casing shape, similar dimensions and even the underbelly exhaust as the international-spec version. That said, the large, gaudy-looking single-piece pillion grab rail looked similar to the India-spec Husqvarna Svartpilen 250

The test mule also packed a catalytic converter diagonally below the front portion of the engine, suggesting that it is BS6-compliant. It will be powered by the same 199cc liquid-cooled engine as the KTM 200 Duke, which churns out 25PS at 10,000rpm and 19.3Nm at 8000rpm, linked to a 6-speed transmission.

Like the international-spec version, the model which will be sold here will also get a 43mm inverted front fork and rear monoshock from WP, with 320mm front and 230mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. Expect the motorcycle’s alloy wheels to roll on the same MRF Revz FD dual-purpose tyres as the India-spec Husqvarna Svartpilen 250.

Expect Husqvarna to launch this motorcycle along with the Vitpilen 200 in early 2021. The Husqvarna Svartpilen 200 is likely to cost around Rs 1.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), undercutting the KTM 200 Duke’s current price by around Rs 11,000. However, taking inflation into account, this gap could further widen by next year, with the KTM 200 Duke inching towards Rs 1.80 lakh whereas the bigger-engined Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 could creep from the current Rs 1.84 lakh pricing to Rs 1.90 lakh by next year.
