The EV adventurer tourer is a testbed for future concepts from Royal Enfield
At EICMA 2023, Royal Enfield unveiled its first-ever electric bike concept called the ‘Electric Himalayan Testbed’. The manufacturer says that it is an expression of what an electric adventure tourer from Royal Enfield could look like. It is basically a ‘testbed’ for the manufacturer’s future electric concepts and offerings.
The only technical details Royal Enfield has mentioned till now is that the Electric Himalayan Testbed gets a battery pack designed in-house and the composite bodywork is made of materials like Organic Flax Fibre. Also, the manufacturer has stated that the EV has gone through testing in the Himalayas and wind tunnel testing has also been done to ensure the bike’s aerodynamic efficiency, which, by extension, should ensure better range.
From the pictures, we can see that the Electric Himalayan Testbed gets gold USD fork and gas-charged Ohlins monoshock and most likely with full adjustability at both ends. It also gets an aluminium swingarm, disc brakes at both ends and SM Pro Platinum spoke wheels with block pattern Continental tyres, likely in a 21/17-inch combination. The rear tyre looks chunkier, probably to handle the instant torque availability of an EV bike.
Royal Enfield’s Mario Alvisi, Chief Growth Officer-EV, also said that there will be “lot of new concepts coming in the next few months”. So, we think that some of the learnings from the Electric Himalayan Testbed will be used to develop other concepts like a commuter EV or even a Classic EV and those models are more likely to hit production first before the production version of the Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric hits the market, presumably quite a few years later.
