Inspired by their Vision Next 100 concept, BMW Motorrad is presenting the Concept Link at the Concorsa d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2017 in Italy

BMW Motorrad is presenting its concept vehicle targeted towards zero emissions and future mobility – the Concept Link. The scooter gets an E-drive system which is implemented considering their zero emission target which also gets a reverse gear. As stated by BMW Motorrad, it is built on an aluminium structure and gets a low-slung body which is good for shorter riders. The Concept Link gets two LEC front lights, covered side wheels both at the front and the rear, twin C-shaped rear taillamps and a seat that can be adjusted lengthwise.

The Concept Link gets an interface which can be linked to the rider's calendar to access his next destinations. It can plan the fastest or the most scenic route based on the rider’s preference and also select the music accordingly. A conventional display has been dropped and vital information like the speed, navigation and battery level is directly projected on the wind shield into the rider's field of vision. The secondary display is positioned on the large surface panel between the handlebars.

The Concept link gets an underseat luggage compartment which can be operated with a motion of the arm of the jacket. The company also offers the scooter with different customisation options in which the side panels and windshields can be selected as per the personal preferences. The side panels don’t completely cover the side section at the rear; instead, they stretch across the vehicle’s side like little wings, exposing the technical elements like drive unit, cooling ribs, single-sided swingarm, spring strut and tooth belt while improving the aerodynamic air flow. The tech-laden scooter comes with a water-repellent jacket which also gets shoulder and elbow protectors so it’s actually functional as well.

Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design of BMW Motorrad, explains: “The BMW Motorrad Concept Link stands for a new understanding of urban mobility. It links the digital and analogue world and places the focus on the rider and his mobility needs. In the way it links functionality and digitalisation it performs both as a means of transport as well as a communication device. For me the BMW Motorrad Concept Link, with its timeless and reduced style, is more than a concept – it is rather a symbol for a new era.”

The Concept Link is BMW's vision towards emission-free and fashionable yet functional personal mobility devices. Whether the scooter hits production floors or not is a question only time can answer, but the Concept Link is surely one of the best concept scooters ever thought of.
