Pulsar CS400

First showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 is still on the charts as one of the most anticipated motorcycles in India. The latest report suggests that the bike will make its market entry by mid-2016 and that the company has already started testing it on the Indian tarmac. Its fully camouflaged test mule has been spotted recently, which gives a glimpse of its production version.

The styling of the production version has been kept quite similar to the CS400 concept model and the attractive twin digital console is still on the bike- one on its flatter handlebar and the other on the masculine fuel tank. As the headlight is too bright in the spy shots, we can't say whether the aggressive multi-unit headlamp has been replaced or not. The most noticeable change is the front forks, which are now the regular telescopic type instead of the inverted versions.

With an ergonomic design and a comfortable contoured seat, the sport cruiser Pulsar will be a first-of-its-kind Indian machine and will start a new segment in the country. Not many manufacturers across the world offer such bikes and that too in the high-performance segment peopled by the likes of the Ducati Diavel and the Yamaha Vmax.

The upcoming Bajaj Pulsar CS400 will be powered by a liquid-cooled engine, displacing around 375cc. Again, the company will adapt the powertrain configuration from the 390cc KTMs, which are manufactured at Bajaj's facility in Chakan. The bike will also feature a rear monoshock, front and rear disc brakes, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), which will make it more comfortable and safe for long rides.

The Pulsar CS400 is expected to be priced between Rs. 1.5 and 1.7 lakh, which will be quite competitive. Although the bike will be the solo player in its segment, it can affect the market of offerings such as KTM 390 Duke, Honda CBR 250R and Royal Enfield motorcycles.
