Launched in December 2016, Bajaj Dominar 400 is now available at selected dealerships across the country.

Apart from demonetisation affecting the sales figures of the last two months, 2016 was a special year for the Indian two-wheeler industry. The market got some interesting, never-seen-before products, like a cross between scooter and motorcycle, the Honda Navi; a sport scooter, the Aprilia SR150, an entry-level adventure tourer, the Royal Enfield Himalayan and many more. Another such product was the Bajaj Dominar 400, the first power cruiser of the country, that surprised everyone with its unbelievably affordable price tag, starting at Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

With the launch of the Dominar 400 in mid-December, Bajaj announced to start deliveries of its new flagship motorcycle by mid-January. True its promise, the Indian manufacturer, today, commenced the delivery of the bike at selected dealerships in 22 cities across the country. The bike is available in ABS trim for an additional cost of Rs 14,000 and one can book any of the two variants for a token amount of Rs 9,000 on its official website. The Dominar 400 is available in Midnight Blue, Twilight Plum and Moon White colour options.

Commenting on the same, Eric Vas, president of motorcycle sales, Bajaj Auto, said “We are delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response we have received for the Dominar 400 from the 22 cities where we had commenced online bookings. We have received numerous enquiries from other towns as well. We are upgrading the sales and service capabilities of dealers in other towns and they will be progressively be appointed for Dominar. The booking in the new centres will also be through website and delivery would be on a first come first served basis."

Mounted on a versatile perimeter frame, is a new 373cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine that is tuned to deliver impressive low- and mid-range torque. Equipped with Bajaj’s triple-spark technology, the fuel-injected motor makes 35PS of power at 8,000rpm and delivers a peak torque of 35Nm at just 6,500rpm. The mill comes mated to a six-speed gearbox using a slipper-type clutch that ensures smooth shifting.

The front is suspended on beefy 43mm telescopic forks, while the rear gets a multi-step adjustable, gas charged monoshock. The stylish alloy wheels of the bike get meaty, radial tyres, 110/70 section front and 150/60 section rear. The high-performance braking duties are handled by a large 320mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes and the company also offers a dual-channel ABS as an optional extra. Along with an interesting split-instrument console with one part mounted on the fuel tank, the Bajaj Dominar 400 also features a fully-LED headlight with Auto Headlamp On (AHO) system.

Bajaj will soon expand the list of cities to offer the Bajaj Dominar 400 to take on offerings like the Mahindra Mojo and other bikes from Royal Enfield motorcycles.
