Ather Electric Scooters Launched In Chennai

After Bengaluru, Chennai is the second city where you can buy an Ather

• In Chennai, the Ather 450 and 340 are Rs 9,036 and Rs 8,444 more expensive.
• After FAME subsidy, the 450 is costs Rs 1.31 lakh while the 350 costs Rs 1.19 lakh (on-road, Chennai).
• Ather is yet to start bookings for their bikes in Chennai though.
• After Bengaluru and Chennai, Ather will launch their scooters in Pune. 

Ather has launched its electric scooters in Chennai. This is the second city after Bengaluru where the Ather electric scooters will be available. In Chennai, the Ather 450 has been priced at Rs 1,31,683 while the Ather 340 has been priced at Rs 1,19,091. This is the on-road price and includes the Rs 27,000 FAME subsidy for the 450 and Rs 24,000 subsidy for the 340.

The increase in price can be partly attributed to the 4 per cent road tax levied in Tamil Nadu which adds Rs 5,837 to the 450’s price and Rs 5,246 to the 340’s price. The Ather scooters attract zero per cent registration charge in Karnataka. However, the scooter prices are expected to go down further thanks to the Governments 2019 Budget proposal to reduce GST for electric vehicles from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. While Chennai prices for the scooters are out, bookings for the same will start on July 24. The Ather 450 impresses not just in the features department but also performance. In fact, it is quicker than most 125cc scooters. We did manage to test the Ather 450 for performance and you can see how it stacks up to the 125cc scooters in the real world here.
