The upcoming software update will introduce a new riding mode which will provide an even greater range

  • The new riding mode is called Eco mode.
  • Riding in this mode extends the range to 75km.
  • However, the top speed is limited to 45kmph.
  • It is still unclear when Ather will start rolling out this update.

Bengaluru-based electric startup Ather Energy will be introducing a new update for its electric scooters. It is essentially a new riding mode called Eco, which will be an addition to the already-existing Ride and Sport modes.

Under this new mode, the scooter’s top speed is restricted to 45kmph. Even the torque output has been reduced compared to the Ride and Sport modes. But these compromises result in an increased range of 75km. To put things into perspective, while the Ride mode offers a range of 65km, it is 55km in the Sport mode. This could be in response to the arrival of new electric products like 22Kymco iFlow and Revolt RV 400, both of which offer superior claimed ranges than the Ather.

That said, it is still unclear whether this update will be rolled out Over The Air (OTA) or customers will have to take their scooter to the service centre. Ather Energy is currently in the process of getting the new scooters homologated as this update changes the performance characteristics of the scooter. The startup is also awaiting confirmation from homologation authorities regarding the introduction of the new update to older models, so stay tuned for more on that.

Ather has been proactively rolling out updates to enhance the usability of its scooters. In May, the startup rolled out one such update which added extra information for the instrument cluster, guide-me-home headlight illumination among others. Currently, the brand is working on entering the Chennai market and will begin accepting bookings for the scooter from July 24 onwards in the city.
