We first laid eyes on it at the Auto Expo in February, and now, after many months of COVID-induced delay, Aprilia has finally launched the SXR 160 maxi-style scooter. Priced at Rs 1,25,997 (ex-showroom Pune), it’s over Rs 15,000 more expensive than the sporty SR 160 Race scooter that it shares its engine with. Unfortunately, it isn’t much less sporty or more comfortable than the SR, as you can find out in our first ride review here.
At this price point, its main competition comes from within the Piaggio group, from scooters like the Vespa SXL 150 (Rs 1,27,008) and VXL 150 (Rs 1,22,693). The only other maxi-style scooter in India at the moment is the Suzuki Burgman Street, powered by a 125cc motor and priced at Rs 82,956. Full details are available in the press release below:
Pune, 23rd December 2020: Piaggio India today announced the launch of Aprilia SXR 160. The much-awaited premium scooter will be available at a price of INR 1,25,997/- ex showroom Pune and can be booked for an initial amount of INR 5000/- across all dealerships in India and through e-commerce website https://apriliaindia.com/.
Aprilia SXR 160 incorporates Aprilia’s latest global design language and is equipped with a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled, 3 valve fuel injection clean emission engine technology, that produces peak power of 11 PS at 7100 RPM. To deliver the best riding experience and highest level of comfort, Aprilia SXR 160 offers bigger, longer, comfortable and ergonomic seats, crafted in art leather suede feel, detailed with special stitch pattern in grey and red threads. The sharp body lines, geometric contours and high craftsmanship reflect the dynamic premium appeal of SXR 160. The scooter comes a fuel tank capacity of 7L.
