Aprilia SR 175 Spotted At Dealerships Ahead Of Launch

The Aprilia SR 175, an upcoming performance oriented scooter has started arriving at dealerships ahead of its launch. The SR 175 is based on the Aprilia SR 160, but with a larger 175cc engine. It will be the most powerful Aprilia scooter in India, and also the most feature packed one. Here’s a detailed overview of the scooter:

The biggest change is the engine, which is likely a bored-out version of the Aprilia SR 160’s motor. The SR160 produces 11.27PS and 13.44Nm, so expect the power and torque figures to go up by 1-2PS/Nm.

The scooter is also a lot better in terms of features compared to the Aprilia SR 160, and it gets a TFT console, a first in an Aprilia scooter in India. The console looks similar to the one which is offered on the Aprilia RS 457 and Tuono 457, but likely with a different layout. It could offer features such as smartphone connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts and music controls. Another interesting thing we noticed on the scooter’s right switchgear is the two mode switches. The upper switch could be to toggle LED DRL/ full-headlight on modes, whereas the lower ‘Mode’ button could be used to navigate through the console menus. 

Other than these changes, the scooter looks similar to the Aprilia SR 160 in terms of underpinnings. The scooter has a telescopic fork and a single-sided shock absorber. It rolls on 14-inch wheels at both ends, with a disc brake at the front, likely with single-channel ABS, and a drum brake at the rear.

The upcoming Aprilia scooter could be launched in the coming weeks with an ex-showroom price that could start at Rs 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom) according to our dealer sources. For perspective, the SR160 costs Rs 1,31,000 (ex-showroom). Right now unofficial bookings for the scooter have also begun in select dealerships.

Considering what we know so far, the Aprilia SR 175 feels like a decent upgrade over the SR160. However, it still falls behind on sheer performance when you compare it to its only other rival in the segment, the Yamaha Aerox 155. Additionally, we also feel this would’ve been a great opportunity for Aprilia to overhaul the SR175’s design but it looks pretty much similar to the 160.
