The Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences, New Delhi, has customised the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and turned it into a bike ambulance. These ambulances, named Rakshita, will be used for rescue ops in the Naxal violence and other Maoist affected areas. Also Read: 2021 Jawa 42 spotted, here’s what’s new.
These are the standard RE Classic 350 models equipped with a casualty evacuation recliner seat, hand mobiliser and a harness jacket to evacuate the paramilitary troops injured in action. The bike ambulance is also kitted with an air splint medical to immobilize injured limbs and oxygen kit for and oxygen supply on the move. The recliner seat has straps and adjustable footrests for added safety.

Furthermore, there’s a physiological parameter measuring equipment with monitoring capability and auto-warning system along with a dashboard-mounted LCD for the rider. As of now, a budget of Rs 35.49 lakh has been sanctioned by the force for the Rakshita bike ambulance project.
Mechanically, the bikes pack a 346cc engine that makes 20.07PS of power and 28Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Braking is done by a 280mm front disc and a 240mm disc at the rear with dual-channel ABS as standard.
