For this year, the R Spec ABS variant will be offered as standard in Japan

Yamaha Japan has launched the 2021 Yamaha Bolt cruiser in the country at JPY 1,045,000 (around Rs 7.25 lakh). For this year, the base variant with spoke wheels and conventional twin rear shock absorbers has been discontinued, and Yamaha is offering only the top-end R Spec ABS variant as standard in the country. The motorcycle is around Rs 13,700 dearer than the launch price of the same variant last year in Japan.

Compared to the base model, the R Spec ABS version comes with alloy wheels with brushed metal finish, tubeless tyres, and a pair of gas-charged rear shock absorbers. For 2021, the livery on the fuel tank is slightly different and the bike is available in a new ‘Grayish Blue Metallic’ colour in addition to the already existing Metallic Black.

The 2021 Yamaha Bolt cruiser is powered by a 941cc air-cooled SOHC, fuel-injected V-twin motor churning out 54PS at 5500rpm and 80Nm at 3000rpm. It is paired to a 5-speed transmission linked to a final belt drive. Yamaha claims a mileage of 21.2kmpl, which is fairly impressive for an engine of its segment. With a 13-litre fuel tank, the motorcycle can cover around 270km on a tankful, theoretically.

The engine sits inside a dual cradle frame linked to a 41mm telescopic front fork and as mentioned before, a pair of twin rear gas-charged shock absorbers. At 252kg kerb, the bike is pretty heavy and the small 282mm petal discs at both ends feel like an underkill, at least theoretically. Thankfully, though, dual-channel ABS is standard. The motorcycle features a halogen headlamp, bulb indicators, LED tail lamp, and a minimalistic LCD instrument cluster.

Yamaha is unlikely to launch the Bolt cruiser in India anytime soon. But do you think Yamaha should bring this cruiser here? Let us know in the comments below.
