A closer look at MV Agusta’s sexy sportbike

MV Agusta has been busy updating its existing models to meet the latest EU5 emission norms. The latest one to receive them is the last surviving sportbike in its lineup: the F3 800 Rosso. Yep, the F3 800 joins the likes of the Brutale, Dragster, and Turismo Veloce in the Rosso colour series, but that’s not it. There’s more to the 2021 F3 than just a new colour and engine updates.

This Massimo Tamburini design looks just as pretty on the F3 now as it did on the F4 750 two decades ago. What enhances its appeal further is the brilliant contrast between the Agostini red body and the dark black underpinnings.

Further, those bronzed exhaust end cans have been sharpened to be more rectangular, making them look quite evocative.

The switches don’t do justice to such a lovely motorcycle. They look dated and a bit cheap, which is quite disheartening for an MV Agusta bike.

MV Agusta has tinkered a fair bit with the internals of the 798cc triple to make it EU5 compliant. Power has taken a small hit, but by no means is 147PS less, especially when it can rev its heart out to 13,500rpm. Peak torque, of 88Nm, remains the same.

Aside from the tacky layout, the new colour TFT screen allows you to control the various electronic rider aid settings of the F3 800, which are now IMU-guided. The new sensor for the bi-directional quickshifter makes for lightning-fast gear shifts.

MV has also redesigned the aluminium plates for the swingarm pivot to improve its handling dynamics.

No changes have been made to the suspension. The F3 800 still employs a Marzocchi USD fork and a Sachs monoshock, both of which are fully adjustable.

We would have liked to see improvements in the braking hardware considering the Brembo M4.32 monobloc front calipers are a few generations old. We weren’t hoping for top-of-the-line Stylemas but Agusta could have definitely upgraded to the M50s, which have a more fierce bite than the M4.32s.

Look at that lovely 17-inch rear wheel, unabashedly flaunting its 6-spoke design thanks to the single-sided swingarm. We have no complaints with the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 tyres either.

With no Indian partner, the likelihood of the MV Agusta F3 800 Rosso arriving by the end of 2021 is next to nil. Whenever it does show up, boy is it going to be pricey!
