Could be faster and more refined than the current-gen Dominar

  • Bajaj could retune the engine for better performance and refinement.
  • Could make more power and torque than the current-gen model.
  • Likely to be BSVI-compliant as well.

Bajaj has been testing the new-gen Dominar quite extensively for a while now. If various spy shots are to be believed, the updated model is expected to feature quite a bit of changes, especially in the underpinnings and electronics department. Now, sources close to the company have confirmed that engineers at Bajaj are revamping the Dominar 400’s mechanical bits too.

The 2019 model is said to have a bigger cylinder head in order to accommodate the new DOHC setup with three spark plugs. In addition to this, the new Dominar is likely to produce more power and torque. So expect an improvement in its acceleration figures top-speed as well. It will continue to be powered by the same 373.3cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine sourced from the KTM 390 Duke. But we expect the motor to be BSVI-ready this time around.

Considering the extent of all these changes, it isn’t a farfetched to think that the KTM 390 Duke could also see a minor update in the coming months. But from what we know so far, the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 will get more premium USD forks, a new dual-digital instrument console, and more.

As expected, all these changes are likely to push the Dominar 400’s pricing by around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. So expect an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 1.75 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh. Bajaj is likely to launch the bike in the second or third week of February. Although it is still superior to its primary rival, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500, it still remains to be seen if the changes help in changing the public perception about the Dominar. That said, we’re reserving our thoughts till we get to ride the bike. So stay tuned for that!
