2015 Tokyo Motor Show: 5 Motorcycles Totally Worth Waiting For

Tokyo Motor Show is one of the best platforms for automobile manufacturers to showcase their vehicles and for the audience to witness them. The show is a biennial event that takes place during October-November at the Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan. The current edition of Tokyo Motor Show is the 44th chapter in its history and is scheduled from October 28 to November 8, 2015.

The event has officially kick started today and numerous exotic auto marvels would be showcased at the extravagant automotive affair. Seeing that happening, we picked up the five most important motorcycles that you guys can definitely wait for:

1. Suzuki Gixxer 250

The Japanese magazine, Young Machine first issued the images of upcoming GSX-1000R and a GSX-250R bikes, which seems inspired from the Concept GSX that Suzuki unveiled recently. As a result, the GSX-250R will come with sharper design cues and aggressive lines in comparison to the existing entry-level Suzuki performance motorcycles like the Gixxer SF. The machine is rumoured to arrive on Indian shores as Gixxer 250 and is expected to be showcased at the upcoming edition of Indian Auto Expo as well, besides obviously the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. If sources are to be believed, the bike will feature a 250cc, single-cylinder engine along with twin LED headlamp units at the front. For braking, disc brakes would be employed at both the ends and the suspension duties would be taken care of by telescopic forks upfront and monoshock at the rear end. ABS may or may not be in stock considering the price for a sensitive economic market that lies in India. The expected price would be around Rs. 2 lac and KTM RC390 & Honda CBR 250R would get a tough competition.

2. Kawasaki Z125

A fresh 125cc mini motorcycle was doing rounds on the Internet since past few days. The bike has been premiered as the Kawasaki Z125 and comes loaded with a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churns out 9.5PS of power and 9.5Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed transmission. The bike looks smaller in comparison to the normal 125cc machines and this is what makes it stand apart from the rest. A member of the Z family, the bike has been assisted with a 7.4 liter fuel tank and weighs just 101kgs. Kawasaki Z125 further features upside down forks along with an underbelly exhaust. However, the bike might not be available for the Indian market due to high cost issues but still we can hope to see it here if Kawasaki takes into consideration the concept of local assembling.

3. Honda CBR 250RR

Honda recently premiered its lightweight supersport concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. Earlier, there were speculations that the bike will be the revised version of the Honda CBR 250RR but now, we are receiving continuous signs that the machine will lie somewhere between 300cc to 400cc category. The machine features aggressive body styling along with fascinating blue LED slits positioned beneath the headlamp unit. Covered with carbon fibre at almost its full body length, the bike further comes installed with Akrapovic exhaust setup to further refine the power delivery. For braking, the front and rear wheels get petal disc brakes and the sporty split step-up seat with twin LED tail lamps adds up some more premiumness. Under the hood is a compact liquid-cooled parallel twin engine whose displacement will most probably be around 250cc.

4. Suzuki G-Strom 250

The bike takes its design cues from its elder sibling - G-Strom 650 and is heavily inspired from the retired 250cc Inazuma. Based on adventure touring concept, the bike will share the powertrain and chassis with the Inazuma and is expected to come with some fine tunings. Suzuki G-Strom 250 features a cradle type downtube chassis, telescopic forks upfront with an adjustable monoshock at the rear. For braking, the bike receives single disc brakes at both ends with the absence of an ABS. With Inazuma already discontinued in India, Suzuki might launch it in India and locally assemble it to bring down the cost.

5. Yamaha PES2 and PED2

The Japanese manufacturer showcased the first versions of these electric vehicles christened as PES1 and PED1 at the previous Tokyo Motor Show. The abbreviations stand for Passion Electric Street and Passion Electric Dirt for PES and PED respectively, which clearly shows the purpose they have been built for. The PES2 gets a hub motor at the front wheel making it a two-wheel drive electric vehicle. However, it is still rear wheel driven and is very lightweight weighing to less than a 100kgs. Talking of potential, these will generate power equivalent to a 50cc-125cc moped/motorcycle.
