Overview
Yamaha has launched the BS6 FZ-FI and FZS-FI. Both motorcycles now come with an updated BS6 compliant motor. In addition the new FZS-FI now gets a two new colours: Darknight and Metallic Red.
Yamaha's third-generation FZS-Fi has a new headlamp, fuel tank extensions, side panels, engine cowl, exhaust end can and tail section. Overall, the FZS-Fi looks more like the larger FZ25. New features include an LED headlamp and a redesigned instrument console which also shows the fuel range.
While the mainframe and suspension setup is the same, the rear subframe is flatter now for better pillion comfort. The handlebar has also been raised for a more upright and comfortable ergonomics. The new BS6 149cc air-cooled and fuel-injected motor gets a higher 9.6:1 compression ratio. It now delivers 12.4PS at 7250rpm and 13.6Nm at 5500rpm. Both peak power and torque outputs are delivered at lower rpm than before.
The new BS6 Yamaha FZS-FI costs just Rs 2,600 more than before. Competition for the FZS-Fi V3.0 comes in the form of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Bajaj Pulsar NS 160, 2019 Suzuki Gixxer and the Honda CB Hornet 160R.

Yamaha FZ-S Fi Version 3.0 BS4 Latest Updates
Update: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the country is on lockdown and hence, the manufacturing of all the two-wheelers from Yamaha brand has been suspended until further notice. Production is likely to resume from April 15 onwards, if the pandemic situation dies down before that.
While the BS4 Yamaha FZ-FI and FZS-FI will soon be discontinued, the bikemaker is offering discounts for its remaining stock.
The third-generation Yamaha FZ-FI and FZS-FI come with cleaner BS6-compliant motors and new colour options: Darknight and Metallic Red. The motorcycle continues to get muscular bodywork and now has a new LED headlamp similar to the FZ-25. The 'S' variant gets chrome intake vents on the fuel tank and an engine cowl. Yamaha has switched back to a single seat setup with the third generation FZ-FI. The keyfob position has been move to the fuel tank instead of the handlebar and the revised digital instrument console is more comprehensive now.
In terms of ergonomics, the handlebar now sits 22mm taller and leans in towards the rider for better reach. So now you have a more upright seating position. The subframe is flatter as well to accommodate the one-piece seat. Even the rear grab rail is a single piece unit now.
Its updated BS6 149cc fuel-injected motor now makes 12. 4PS at 7250rpm and 13. 6Nm at 5500rpm. COmpared to the BS4 version, power has dropped by 0. 8PS while torque has improved by 0. 8Nm. Both peak power and torque now come at a lower rpm than before. The new engine update should make the new FZS-FI friendlier in the city.
The Yamaha FZ-S V3 mainly competes against the TVS Apache 160 4V, Suzuki Gixxer, Pulsar 160NS and the upcoming Hero Xtreme 160R. In its price bracket, it also goes up against the Apache RTR 180 and Pulsar 180F.
