Overview
The newly launched TVS X electric scooter is the flagship EV from the Hosur-based manufacturer. Notably, it holds the distinction of being the first electric scooter in India to feature Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). The pricing for the TVS X starts at Rs 2,49,990 (ex-showroom, does not get FAME 2 subsidy). This makes it the costliest electric scooter in India.
Design
TVS has made sure the X doesn’t stray away too much from its concept sibling, the TVS Creon. It still gets the sporty design that looks nothing like any other e-scooters in India. The muscular apron is complemented by a trellis subframe with a single-sided swingarm, making it look almost like a motorcycle from the rear.
Features
As mentioned earlier, the TVS X electric scooter comes with a single-channel ABS, making it the only e-scooter to have the said safety feature. Safety features are bolstered by the TVS Smart Xhield, providing crash alerts and dedicated assistance.
Other features include a 10.2-inch TFT touchscreen display that provides extensive customization options and can be tilted for optimal visibility. The TVS NavPro navigation system, integrated with the TVS SmartXonnect platform, offers context-aware information to the rider, including EV-specific routing algorithms that anticipate charging station locations. The console includes various widgets, themes, video playback, and even games. The e-scooter's practicality is evident with a spacious 19-liter underseat storage compartment.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Powering the TVS X is a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that is equipped with an in-house controller. This motor delivers a peak power of 11 kW and a rated power of 7 kW. The e-scooter achieves a 0-40 kmph claimed acceleration time of 2.6 seconds, and a top speed of 105 kmph. The TVS X offers three riding modes – "Xtealth," "Xtride," and "Xonic," each complemented by multi-levels of regeneration. The suspension system consists of a telescopic fork and a rear offset monoshock, working in conjunction with a 220mm petal front disc and a 195mm rear unit that features single-channel ABS. The specially developed tire compounds (100-section front and 110-section rear) wrapped around the 12-inch wheels enhance grip and reduce rolling resistance.
The TVS X electric scooter is equipped with a 4.44kWh battery pack that incorporates an in-house Battery Management System (BMS). The claimed IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range is 140km.
The new TVS X electric scooter 3kW Smart X Home rapid charger can charge the battery from 0% to 50% in approximately 50 minutes. Alternatively, a 950W portable charger achieves 0-80% charge in around 4 hours and 30 minutes. The cost of the 950W charger is approximately Rs 16,000, while the faster 3kW unit comes at a higher price of around Rs 26,000.
Handling & Ride Quality
The TVS X is built on the "TVS Xleton" platform, which boasts a premium cast aluminum alloy twin-spar frame. This frame design is claimed to offer better rigidity and durability. A unique feature of this platform is the incorporation of a ram air-cooled motor, introducing passive cooling that enhances sustained performance. The TVS Xleton frame claims to surpass the standard underbone frames in both torsional stiffness (more than 2 times) and vertical stiffness (more than 4 times), leading to improved agility. The placement of the battery between the spars contributes to a lower center of gravity.
