Overview
Royal Enfield Classic is one of the best selling retro street bike range of the country that was introduced by the renowned two-wheeler subsidiary of Eicher motors. It comprises of five robust motorcycles out of which four are powered by a 500cc mill and the remaining one comes with a 350cc engine. The bikes contribute more than 50 percent sales in the company’s entire product portfolio and have received fabulous attention, especially from the Indian buyers.
Powering the bike is a 499cc, air-cooled, four stroke engine that produces 27.2bhp of power and 41.3Nm of torque. It employs a five-speed transmission system that uses wet multiplate clutch assembly. On the other side, the baby model, Classic 350 gets its revs from a 346cc, Single Cylinder, 4 stroke, Twinspark engine that churns out a peak power of 19.8bhp along with a maximum torque of 28Nm.
Royal Enfield Classic 500 is fitted with 90/90-19 tyre at the front and 120/80-18 tyre at the rear that offer a good on-road grip. The bike slows down via 280mm front disc brake with twin piston calliper and a rear 153mm drum brake. The bike runs smoothly on harsh road as it deploys telescopic 35mm forks upfront and gas charged shock absorbers with five-step adjustable preload at the rear end.
The bike has a retro and elegant body design that is characterized by a rounded headlamp at the front, solo saddle and a robust exhaust setup. The tank is neatly finished and can hold 13.5 liters of fuel. The rear fender shows up its maximum surface area due to the incorporation of solo saddle. Royal Enfield Classic 500 has the following body dimensions: 2,140mm x 790mm x 1,090mm (LxWxH) that make it come across handsomely. The bike has a wheelbase and minimum ground clearance of 1,360mm and 135mm respectively that offers commendable handling and stability. The instrument console is traditional comprising of an analogue speedometer, odometer and a fuel gauge.
Design
Needless to say, Royal Enfield has always designed its bikes in an impressive manner that makes them come along as stylish and highly finished, both at the same time. The Classic 500 follows the same philosophy and comes with a premium retro street bike appearance. The front section receives a signature rounded headlamp section fitted inside a chromed ring and are accompanied by twin tiger eye lamps. The fuel tank is designed neatly that gives a comfortable and upright riding posture. Next to fuel tank lies an impressively designed, vintage inspired solo saddle that comes integrated with additional coil springs to offer comfort.
At the rear end, a full semicircle fender appears at the end of which a stylish tail lamp and number plate are mounted smartly. The bike has a robust stainless steel silencer that looks munificent and produces Royal Enfield signatured, thumping and thunderous sound.
Royal Enfield Classic 500 comes with the body dimensions of 2,140mm x 790mm x 1,090mm (LxWxH) and has a wheelbase of 1,360mm . A minimum ground clearance of 135mm offers good stability due to low centre of gravity. The bike has been fitted with a 13.5 liter liter fuel tank and comes with a total kerb weight of 190kgs. The instrument cluster of the bike comes with an analogue speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge.

Royal Enfield Classic runs on 499cc, single cylinder, four-stroke, twin spark engine that comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. It generates a net power of 27.2bhp at 5,250 rpm with a maximum torque of 41.3 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The bike breathes via a paper filter and comes assisted with an electronic ignition system.
Now coming to the younger sibling, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 has a 346cc, Single Cylinder, 4 stroke, Twinspark engine that churns out a peak power of 19.8bhp at 5,250rpm along with a maximum torque of 28Nm at 4,000rpm. This one comes mated to a five-speed transmission as well and uses a transistorized coil ignition system.
Handling & Ride Quality
Royal Enfield Classic 500 progresses on 90/90-19 front and 120/80-18 rear tyres that offer a superior grip on the road and have a good adhesion property. The braking is done with the help of 280mm disc brake with twin-piston calliper at the front and 153mm, internal shoe expanding drum brake at the rear. To offer a comfortable and stress free ride, the bike receives telescopic 35mm forks at the front and twin gas charged shock absorbers with five step adjustable preload at the rear.
