Royal Enfield Bullet 650

The Royal Enfield Bullet is one of the most iconic motorcycles ever sold in India. For decades, it has represented a relaxed, old-school motorcycling experience built around strong road presence, simple design, and effortless cruising ability. And now in 2026, Royal Enfield has taken that formula and given it its biggest upgrade yet in the form of the new Bullet 650.

Even though the motorcycle shares its engine platform with the rest of the 650cc lineup, the idea here is very different. Instead of chasing sporty performance or aggressive handling, the Bullet 650 focuses entirely on delivering a proper “BIG Bullet” experience with a relaxed riding character and classic styling. After riding the motorcycle through city traffic, highways, and broken roads, here’s what the new Bullet 650 is really like.

Design

Visually, the Bullet 650 immediately feels like a proper BIG Bullet. Thankfully, Royal Enfield has resisted the temptation to over-modernise the motorcycle, and honestly, that works strongly in its favour. You still get the iconic 3D tank emblems, squared-off mudguards, peashooter-style exhausts, and the classic silhouette that has defined the Bullet for generations.
While the old-school boxy taillight is no longer present, the overall design language still feels extremely retro and classy. The motorcycle carries plenty of road presence, especially because of its large proportions and long, low stance.

Colours

Royal Enfield has offered the motorcycle in some genuinely tasteful colour options. The black shade especially suits the Bullet’s personality perfectly and gives the bike a proper mafia-bike vibe. Bullet has always looked best in black, and that tradition continues here as well.
There’s also an India-exclusive blue shade (my personal favourite!) that gives the motorcycle a more premium and elegant appearance. Both paint schemes work nicely with the chrome detailing and overall old-school styling.

Wheels

The Bullet 650 continues with a classic, old-school wheel setup that perfectly matches its overall retro character. You get a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel combination. The wheels are wrapped around with MRF tyres specifically developed for this bike. The grip levels on the tyres are decent. During hard acceleration, emergency braking and while cornering, the tyres do have your back. 

Build Quality

One of the standout details on the Bullet 650 is its beautifully finished tank badge with hand-painted gold pinstriping. It genuinely looks premium and feels like the sort of detail you’ll keep admiring repeatedly.
The overall build quality also feels extremely solid. The motorcycle genuinely feels tank-like, with sturdy body panels, excellent paint finish, and a reassuring sense of heft throughout. Everything feels properly put together and premium.

Safety Features

The Bullet 650 keeps things intentionally simple and old-school. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard, which provides good braking confidence and safety.
However, protection accessories like crash guards are not offered as standard equipment, which feels like a small miss considering the motorcycle’s touring-friendly nature.

Convenience Features

The console layout feels familiar because it is largely shared with the smaller Bullet 350. Along with the analogue-digital display, Royal Enfield also offers the Tripper navigation pod as standard.
The display itself remains simple, easy to read, and perfectly suits the motorcycle’s retro character. You also get adjustable levers and a USB charging port, both of which add useful practicality for everyday riding and touring.

One feature that genuinely feels missing at this price point is tubeless spoke wheels. They would have significantly improved touring convenience and practicality.

Rider Comfort

A Bullet isn’t just supposed to look good. It’s also meant to offer a laid-back and relaxed riding experience, and this is an area where the Bullet 650 performs extremely well.
The riding posture feels upright and neutral, while the slightly raised handlebar position makes the reach feel very natural. Whether you’re a shorter rider or someone above six feet tall, the ergonomics feel welcoming and comfortable.

The seat height itself is accessible, although the motorcycle’s wide body means you still need to pay attention while stopping in traffic. Once moving though, the bike feels extremely natural and easy to settle into.
Seat cushioning is on the softer side and feels comfortable initially. However, riders planning very long journeys may still want to explore Royal Enfield’s optional touring seat for added long-distance comfort.
Like the other Royal Enfield 650 twins, the Bullet 650 does generate noticeable engine heat around the legs. Thankfully, it never becomes unbearable or deal-breaking, but riding the bike in slippers or traditional footwear definitely isn’t the smartest idea.

Pillion Comfort

Pillion comfort is another area where the Bullet 650 feels fairly family-friendly. The low seat height makes climbing on and off easy, while the footpeg positioning feels natural and comfortable.
The rear seat itself is slightly compact, which means the pillion sits fairly close to the rider. However, overall comfort levels remain decent enough for regular everyday usage and short weekend rides.

Engine

Powering the Bullet 650 is the familiar 648cc parallel-twin engine seen across the Royal Enfield 650 lineup. However, just like the Classic 650, the overall character here feels quite different from the Interceptor or Continental GT.
This engine feels relaxed, linear, and extremely tractable. More importantly, the motorcycle never feels aggressive or impatient. Acceleration builds smoothly and progressively instead of delivering a sudden burst of performance.
The Bullet 650 is happiest when ridden calmly. You can comfortably cruise in sixth gear at 50kmph, and the engine continues pulling cleanly without complaining.

City Performance

In city riding conditions, the Bullet 650 feels surprisingly enjoyable. The strong low-end torque and smooth throttle response create a very relaxed, almost stress-free riding experience.
The clutch action is slightly heavy in traffic, but thanks to the narrower handlebar and relaxed ergonomics, the bike never feels physically demanding to ride. The gearbox itself deserves special mention because the shifts feel extremely smooth and satisfying.
Despite weighing over 240kg, the engine’s easy-going nature makes daily riding feel far less intimidating than expected.

Highway Performance

Out on the highway, the Bullet 650 genuinely shines. Cruising between 80-120kmph feels relaxed, effortless, and properly regal.
The engine always feels comfortable at touring speeds, and while it can go faster, the motorcycle’s overall personality clearly encourages you to slow down and enjoy the journey instead of chasing top speed numbers.

That said, refinement isn’t perfect. Similar to the Classic 650, mild vibrations can be felt through the footpegs and seat at highway cruising speeds. Thankfully, they never feel harsh or irritating enough to ruin the experience.

Mileage

We rode the bike on highways and in the city, and the real-world mileage we received from the Bullet 650 was 20.2kmpl. With a 14.8 litre fuel tank, this translates to a full tank range of around 290km on a full tank. If you are a bit gentle on the throttle and maintain steady speeds, you will easily get over 300km of range on a full tank of fuel.

City Handling

At 243kg kerb weight, the Bullet 650’s heft is definitely noticeable at lower speeds. Tight U-turns and filtering through traffic require some effort and attention.
However, the motorcycle’s low centre of gravity prevents it from feeling intimidating. After a short while, riders naturally adapt to the weight and the bike becomes surprisingly manageable.

Highway Handling

Once speeds increase, the Bullet 650 starts feeling noticeably lighter and more responsive. Lane changes feel natural, and the motorcycle hides its weight quite well while touring.
The long wheelbase and stable chassis setup make the bike feel planted and confidence inspiring even at triple-digit speeds.

Cornering

Through long sweeping corners, the Bullet 650 feels stable and predictable. No, it isn’t sporty or particularly agile, but it still offers a reassuring and confidence-inspiring feel while leaned over.

Brakes

Braking performance overall feels strong and confidence-inspiring. The rear brake especially offers very good bite and stopping power.
The front brake could have offered slightly better feel and sharper initial bite, but overall braking performance remains more than adequate for the motorcycle’s relaxed character.

Ride Quality

One of the biggest strengths of the Bullet 650 is its comfortable ride quality. Interestingly, despite sharing the same underpinnings as the Classic 650, the overall ride experience between both motorcycles feels noticeably different.

The suspension setup, frame, and hardware may largely be similar, but the Bullet’s ergonomics completely change the riding experience. The handlebar sits closer to the rider, which reduces the amount of body weight transferred onto the front suspension. This makes the front end feel noticeably more relaxed and comfortable.

The single-piece seat also changes the seating posture significantly. Compared to the slightly forward-set feel of the Classic 650, the Bullet places the rider in a more upright, laid-back “raja-on-bike” posture.
Even in city riding conditions, this difference feels noticeable. Yes, the rear suspension can still feel slightly firm over sharp potholes and broken roads, but overall comfort levels feel better than the Classic 650.

On highways, the Bullet 650 feels genuinely excellent. At triple-digit speeds, the motorcycle remains rock-solid stable, while bumps, rumble strips, and highway undulations barely unsettle the chassis. The long wheelbase and heavy kerb weight work strongly in the motorcycle’s favour here.

The new Bullet 650 finally delivers that proper BIG Bullet feeling that even the current Bullet 350 cannot fully recreate.

This motorcycle is built around one clear objective: delivering a genuinely old-school Bullet riding experience combined with effortless highway performance. And honestly, it succeeds brilliantly at that.
The Bullet 650 never encourages aggressive riding. Instead, it asks you to slow down, relax, and simply enjoy the journey. The upright posture, smooth parallel-twin engine, and rock-solid highway stability come together to create a riding experience that feels increasingly rare in modern motorcycles.

This isn’t a motorcycle that instantly impresses you through spec sheets or flashy features. It doesn’t chase crazy acceleration figures, sporty handling, or aggressive styling. If you want sharper performance, more engaging cornering ability, or a sportier personality, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, Interceptor 650, or even the Classic 650 may suit you better.

But if you want a mature, laid-back, and genuinely effortless motorcycle that makes every ride feel special, then the Bullet 650 might just be Royal Enfield’s most sorted 650cc motorcycle yet.

BSA Gold Star

The only real alternative to the Bullet 650 in this old-school, retro-classic space is the BSA Gold Star. Both motorcycles clearly appeal to riders who want a timeless design language, relaxed riding character, and a strong focus on heritage rather than outright performance numbers.

The Gold Star, however, takes a slightly different approach. The engine is tuned for a smoother, slightly more refined mid-range, and the overall riding feel leans a bit more towards classic road touring rather than the laid-back “royal cruiser” vibe that the Bullet 650 delivers.
