Yamaha Discontinues Ray from its India line-up

Yamaha India has discontinued its popular scooter Ray from the Indian market. The vehicle was a best-selling scooter by the company after Fascino but was failing to meet the expectations of the manufacturer for the past few months. This was the reason that the company decided to retire it. However, the premium version of the scooter - Ray Z will continue to be available for sale as the company has discontinued only the base model. Speculations in this regard started when Yamaha took the scooter off from its official website and when we contacted some dealers, their nod confirmed the news. So, now that after Ray has been discontinued, Ray ZR which was unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo will be replacing the discontinued model and is expected to be launched anytime soon.

The only scooter left in the Ray family - Ray Z comes powered by an 113cc, four-stroke engine that generates a maximum power of 7bhp at 7,500rpm along with a peak torque of 8.1Nm at 5,000rpm. The Blue Core technology ensures better combustion efficiency besides delivering an improved fuel economy. The suspension system comprises of telescopic forks at the front along with unit swing type shock absorbers at the rear. For braking, the Ray Z has been equipped with drum brakes at both ends. The company is offering the Ray Z in four impressive shades namely Regal Red, Astral Blue, Moon Walk White and True Blue. 

As the existing model is retired, the company is looking forward to filling its spot with the recently unveiled Ray ZR that comes across as a more premium product. The new model comes with a muscular styling and features gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear, front disc brake with alloy wheels and much more. The Ray ZR is expected to be launched by May and it would be interesting to see if it can help the company regain those sales numbers or not. Stay tuned for more updates!
