The i-Touch Start variant costs Rs 36,109, which is Rs 2,600 more expensive than the standard Heavy Duty model

TVS Motor Company has introduced the XL 100 Heavy Duty i-Touch Start at Rs 36,109 (ex-showroom Delhi). The latest variant of the popular moped gets an electric start to add to its convenience and ease of use. It i-Touch Start feature includes an integrated starter generator instead of a starter motor in the moped. TVS claims it makes starting noise free. The Hosur-based manufacturer says the feature has been designed to be reliable and that it can be used multiple times in a day. The i-Touch Start technology is claimed to consume 30 per cent less battery when compared to conventional electric start technology. The technology also results in low maintenance cost, added the Hosur-based two-wheeler manufacturer.

Apart from this, the XL100 also gets a USB charger in the instrument cluster to charge your smartphone. The split seats feature a detachable pillion seat to lug around goods. A new Mileral Purple colour variant wraps the all-metal bodywork. This brings the total colour count to seven. Another nifty feature is the LED strip below the round halogen headlamp that acts as a daytime running light (DRL). Powering the moped is a 99.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that’s good for 4.35PS at 6000rpm and 6.5Nm at 3500rpm. A single-speed gearbox with a centrifugal wet-type clutch transfers the power to the rear wheel via a chain drive.

Telescopic front forks and dual hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear take care of bumps and road undulations. Bringing the moped to a halt is an 80mm front and a 110mm rear drum. The XL100 has a kerb weight of 86kg and has a payload capacity of 130kg. Compared to the entry-level XL100 Comfort variant, which costs Rs 32,759 (ex-showroom Delhi), the new moped commands a premium of Rs 3,350.
