The first fully-faired sportsbike from TVS Motors, Akula 310, spotted testing on dyno

The upcoming TVS Akula 310 (or the Apache RTR 310) has been spied numerous times till date and this time it has been spotted testing on a dyno, pointing towards its final stages of development. As seen in the pictures, the motorcycle gets twin split LED projector headlamps, split seats, LED turn indicators which are different compared to those seen on the concept bike showcased for the first time at Auto Expo 2016. The LED tail lamps look unique and seem to have taken inspiration from shark fins. The Akula 310 gets a bigger windscreen, a larger seat and comfortable riding position which points towards its comfortable nature compared to its aggressively positioned direct rival – the KTM RC390.

Braking duties are handled by TVS’ signature petal disc brakes both at the front and the rear equipped with ABS. The disc sizes are yet to be confirmed. It gets vertically positioned digital clocks and we expect it to be equipped with a lap timer, top speed recorder and sprint recorder along with a gear positioning indicator and service reminder. There are multiple telltale lights above the LCD screen and a shift indicator to its right. The bike looks production-ready and TVS will launch the motorcycle in the Indian market anytime soon.

The Akula 310 is a fully-faired motorcycle from TVS which shares a lot of its underpinnings with the BMW G 310 R. The steel trellis frame, gold finished 41mm upside down (USD) front forks, 5-spoke alloy wheels, switchgear, monoshock rear suspension, Michelin tyres, exhaust muffler and rear swingarm on the Akula 310 are exactly identical to the G 310 R. Shared parts will help TVS to keep costs in check as both the motorcycles will be manufactured by TVS at their Hosur plant.

The motorcycle also shares its engine with the BMW G 310 R, and is a 313cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder motor which develops 34PS power and 28Nm of peak torque. Though the Akula 310 has a lesser power output than the KTM RC390, it isn’t meant to be an aggressive track bike and will instead be a comfortable motorcycle compared to the RC390. We expect it to be priced around Rs 2.2 to 2.3 lakh, which will make it a strong competitor to the KTM RC 390, Yamaha YZF-R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300, Honda CBR250R and the upcoming Benelli Tornado 302.

Watch out for this space for more news and updates on the motorcycle.
