The British sports tourer will have the Kawasaki Versys 650 in its crosshairs

[Update: Triumph has launched the Tiger Sport 660 in India at Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom pan India). Read our launch story for all the details.]

Triumph is all set to introduce the new Tiger Sport 660 in India tomorrow. The British marque had already teased the upcoming sports tourer on its social media.

The Triumph Sport 660 is a tour-friendly alternative to the Trident 660 – the most affordable motorcycle from the bikemaker. We expect the Tiger Sport to be priced around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Though the Tiger Sport 660 is based on the Trident 660, serious changes have been made to the sports tourer to make it accommodating for the long hauls. For starters, the ergonomics of the Tiger Sport are different, thanks to the taller and wider handlebar. Even the 835mm seat height on the Tiger Sport is 30mm more than the Trident. Furthermore, the footpegs have been moved slightly forward for a relaxed position.

The changes to the chassis include a sharper rake and shorter trail, a 17mm longer wheelbase and longer-travel suspension. It sports a larger 17.2-litre fuel tank to suit its intended purpose. The electronics suite on the bike consists of switchable traction control, two riding modes (Road and Rain) and ABS. On the connectivity front, there’s optional turn-by-turn navigation on offer via Triumph Connectivity System.

The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 continues with the same inline-triple 660cc engine making 81PS and 64Nm. Even the state of tune hasn’t been tinkered with, and remains the same as the Trident 660.

The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will compete primarily with the Kawasaki Versys 650 in our market which is priced at Rs 7.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The Japanese bikemaker will also launch the updated version in our market soon too. And if you are willing to stretch the budget, the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT is a versatile bike worth considering.
