It’s priced a lot cheaper than its Japanese rivals

  • The SYM Jet X 150 is powered by a liquid-cooled 149.6cc single-cylinder motor and makes 12PS and 12Nm.
  • Gets LED lights, a digital instrument cluster and a USB charging port.
  • Is available in two variants: Standard and Special Edition.

Expanding its maxi-scooter line up, Taiwanese two-wheeler company, SYM has officially launched the Jet X 150 in Malaysia. It is the brand’s premium offering in the 150cc scooter segment.

Just like the Maxsym 400 unveiled last month, the SYM Jet X 150 also gets a sharp and edgy body design. The LED headlights with DRLs go well with the scooter's aggressive styling.

The Jet X 150 is powered by a liquid-cooled 149.6cc single-cylinder motor with fuel injection. It pumps out a humble 12PS and 12Nm. The feature list on the Jet X 150 is nothing out of the ordinary. It gets a digital instrument cluster, a USB charging port, and LED lights, features that are pretty much the norms these days.

Its underpinnings consist of a telescopic fork and a pair of adjustable rear shocks. A 260mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc paired with CBS (Combined Braking System) help anchor the scooter.

It rolls on 14-inch alloys and tips the weight scale at 140kg. Fuel tank capacity stands at 7.5 litres while its underseat storage measures at 18 litres, which is good enough to accommodate a half-faced helmet.

The Jet X 150 standard model retails at RM 8,888 (approximately Rs 1.56 lakh) and gets three colours: Yellow, Red and Grey. The Special Edition is priced at RM 9,188 (approximately Rs 1.61 lakh) and is offered in Chameleon Blue paint, in Malaysia. It’s on the pricier side when compared to the India-spec Aprilia SXR 160 priced at Rs 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Considering the niche market segment, it’s highly unlikely for a business like SYM to step into the Indian market with the Jet X 150 anytime soon.

If you still wish to go for a maxi-styled scooter here in India, your only other options are the  Aprilia SXR 125 and the Suzuki Burgman Street.
