Piaggio Trademarks eSR1. New Aprilia E-scooter In The Making?
Could Aprilia change the way electric scooters are perceived?
Could Aprilia change the way electric scooters are perceived?

Italian two-wheeler giant Piaggio has trademarked the name āeSR1ā with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. While the complete name of the concerned scooter hasnāt been revealed, we believe it hints at Apriliaās upcoming e-scooter, purely based on the font used. To draw similarities, Aprilia makes use of the āSRā logo on its SR-GP Replica scooter that was introduced last year for the international market. Not to mention, the prefix āSRā is already in use on Apriliaās SR range of sporty scooters here in India. The letter āeā could simply be an abbreviation for the word āelectric.ā
Piaggio already sells the Vespa Elettrica in the European market. And we believe it may use the same powertrain and battery pack on the eSR1, albeit in a higher state of tune for better performance. The styling could be typical Aprilia with sharp lines and sporty graphics.

As of now, it's unclear if the scooter is still in its prototype phase or closer to production. But the fact that Aprilia already has the foundation ready (Vespa Elettrica) with trademark filings points towards the latter.
More interestingly, Piaggio had revealed that itās working on a Vespa electric scooter, which will be based on the existing Vespa platform, for the Indian market. We canāt help but imagine the brand extending this approach for the Aprilia range of scooters as well. Sure, the India and international-spec models may differ in terms of price, features and quality, but the basic principles would remain the same.
