One of the most common types of motorcycle's front suspension, we take a look at what a telescopic fork is and how it works

Generally used in all the 100-200cc commuters and even many 250-500cc performance bikes, the standard telescopic fork is the most common type of front suspension for motorcycles. In a conventional telescopic fork setup, a pair of tubes are used with springs inside them linked to the steering setup of the bike via a yoke or a triple clamp. These tubes are placed within sliders attached to the front axle, to which the front wheel mounts. The springs inside these tubes are immersed in oil, with the springs absorbing surface shocks, while the oil damps the spring movement to make it slower.

This type of front suspension is cost-effective to make and repair, making it a preferred choice for budget-oriented motorcycles like commuters and entry-level cruisers. Some of the more expensive cruisers also come with standard telescopic forks.
