Manufacturers and dealers have been offering lucrative deals on unsold BS4 stock. This time around, it is Piaggio’s Pune dealers who are offering a cash discount of Rs 40,000 on BS4-compliant Vespa and Aprilia scooters. What’s more enticing is that there is also a Rs 25,000 discount on the BS6-compliant models. The discounts will be available only for a brief period, hopefully until the BS4 deadline remains, which is now May 13.
Piaggio had recently announced the BS6 prices of all its models. The scooters have become ridiculously expensive, with the most affordable scooter in the line-up -- the Aprilia Storm -- now retailing for Rs 85,431 (ex-showroom Pune). In fact, the SR160 Race now retails at Rs 1,12,463 and the Vespa VXL 150 Elegante at Rs 1,31,374. Here’s the new price list:
Piaggio has done little to justify the new BS6 prices. The existing engines are now BS6-compliant with the addition of a fuel injection system. The Aprilia SR160s (new name but has the same 150cc motor underneath) have 11PS on tap, 0.94PS more power in its BS6 guise. No other changes to be reported.
